Are You As Good As The Youngsters Coming In?

A host of players missed the Wet Spam clash, yet it seems some of them may be in contention for the Europa opener.

Speaking on the Official Site as the tension builds to Thursdays revenge mission against Rapid, MacDonald admitted that he was considering his options and if those players who missed out against Spam work hard and impress in training, he will have no concerns about throwing them in.

'one or two of the squad players who weren't here against West Ham might get a chance on Thursday. It is going to be up to them to show they are either as good as the ones that played or as good as the youngsters they know are coming in.'

I must admit I love that last line...'as good as the youngsters they know are coming in.'

Big Mac also adds that with the next generation more than making their mark on the first team, it has a couple of the seniors getting nervous.

MacDonald is certainly treating the Europa properly, he would like nothing more than to see us qualify for the group stage and give all at the club a boost.

'We owe them one from last year and it would be great for us to try and qualify for the group stage which would give us more games to maybe blood the youngsters and give them experience.'

ant1ant1 lol. Good point well made. There is actually nothing wrong with resting 1 player every game. Providing of course we are not decimated by injuries. Especially the more senior members of the squad. The Luke Youngs, Carews, Petrovs etc would benefit if they were told a couple of times a season to go away and get the sun on their back for a few days. And as for later in the season, a formation of Petrov playing as a holding midfielder in front of Delph, Ireland and Ashley Young, who in turn are just behind Albrighton, Downing and Gabi is one that is likely to strike fear (Not 'The Fear') into most teams.
