Milner Might Pull The Plug? Villa Transfer Talk

Again Villa are proving they don't get bullied in the transfer market. With no links inward today sadly, we will have to concentrate on the will-he-won't-he move to Manchester City for James Milner.

James Nursey at The Mirror says that Villa WILL play Milner in Europe v Rapid Vienna if the deal hasn't been made by then. Obviously he would then be cup tied, not that is as crushing a blow for City who have 352 midfielders at last count.

The deal, it appears, is being held up by Stephen Ireland wanting a £2million pay off from City. Can't say I blame him, he was given a five year contract, (now just under four years remaining), so the club have to pay him up. I'd not walk away from that sort of money either. Matter of fact, I'd not walk away from a tenner!

Kevin MacDonald is quoted as saying he'll name Milner if he is available adding, 'If we were going to stop him playing then we should have stopped him playing in the Premier League.' And he says the midfielder will WANT to play because 'he just loves playing football'.

The Guardian have picked up on a rumour that has been doing the rounds recently, that James Milner is starting to question just how badly Manchester City want him and that he is frustrated and now unsure whether to make the move. The report says if the deal isn't done in the next 24 hours, it won't be done at all. They also claim that Milner himself has threatened to pull out of the proposed move.

That prospect, combined with Milner's threat to pull the plug on the transfer, is expected to lead to a fraught day of negotiations between all parties tomorrow.

City are apparently willing to pay straight cash but Villa want Ireland as part of the deal and I've heard that isn't negotiable, it is player + cash or nothing.

Another little bit that rings true from the 'whispers' is that part of Milner's problem and reason for wanting out was his relationship with MON. The paper says Randy Lerner, the Villa chairman, and Paul Faulkner, the club's chief executive, have spoken to Milner in the past week, strengthening the lines of communication that had broken down after O'Neill provoked a furious row during pre-season when he claimed that the player had told him he wanted to leave the club.

So, it is put up or shut up time.

Stewart Downing said to BBC Radio WM: 'If he goes, we'll wish him all the best, but if he stays we know what we're going to get from him. It's going to be a big gap for us to fill if he does go, but hopefully it falls through and he stays.'

A former Villa player, 30-year-old Darius Vassell is apparently wanted by Leeds. The former Villa and England striker is available on a free.

He is our player and should remain our player where he will play every week, enhance his England ambitions and get due recognition with every game. At Man City he'll be one of the 352 midfielders who will form part of a rotation system that sees him play once every 4 games...perhaps. The danger with that is as we're seeing with players like Bellamy and Ireland, the new rules force Man City to freeze them out. Now yes, the lure of a beautiful signing on fee and mega mega bucks is a realistic attraction but if you love playing football, it hardly becomes appealing. I'm sure Villa's alternate offer to Milly isnt too bad. Lets hope it falls through.....

I think we should go for Vassell, just the type of clinical striker we're looking for......

it would be great if he stayed and signed a new contract. I think it might be wishful thinking though based on the ITK stuff going around. Also, I just knew this would all end up being MONs fault lol

Yeah Wished I was going Vienna, this new format just doesnt give you enough notice. Cant see many Villa going! Maybe 400 tops.

I did look at the flights to Vienna and they weren't too expensive. Unfortunately I've only just had a holiday so would have struggled to get the time off work. I think / hope Milner stays and feel its getting more and more likely as each day passes. I know we're biased but surely its a no-brainer, isn't it? UTV!

Would love Milly to pull the plug, as oppose to waiting for it to naturally fall through. I am also really warming to Downing at the begining of this season, he seems...different, more influential. I think James must be thinking "if they really wanted me that bad , they would have sorted it out by now" , that coupled with all the Balotelli talk and Gourcuff , and seeing how Bel and Ireland have been treated. Would be epic if he scored on Thursday and took off his shirt to reveal a "Villa till i die" tattoo!!!!!!!

Surely he can see he's still got a place at the club if he wants it. I'd love it if he stayed IF he wanted to. More poachers goals like the one on Saturday please Jimmy !!

Either way we win, perfer him to stay though and to finish above man city, while being loved by the villa fans...

Could we still get Ireland even if Milner stays?
astonsteve
Just have the feeling ManCity will just realise what they are missing and he will go although he is not rated by there fans. Get a new forward and we could have a very good season. Jol to come but Kev Mac to play a major role in AV going forward
Eddy1
well the hints that he might stay ended up a pile of pants. He's gone as far as I can see! lol. Still, gave us a seconds 'hope'. Still say we have the best deal out of this. Ireland + £18m ish cash. That is a £30m package. Milner is a good player, like him a lot, but no way he is more than a £15-£18m player.
