Luke Young staying at Villa?

It's a fact Luke and Martin never got on, this was the only reason that he was determined to leave this year; because would never play him! But now Martin has gone, and remember what Luke Young said, "I've been fighting for my position but it never seems as if it's been a fair fight.

"I don't want to leave Aston Villa because it's a great club, but I don't know what more I've got to do to get into the team. I feel fitter than I've ever felt, I'm in the shape of my life, and I think my form has been good whenever I have played.

"I'm always as professional as possible when I train. Other than the Chelsea game, when the whole team had a nightmare including me, I think I can hold my head up high about all of my performances. It just seems that however hard I work in training or however well I do in games that I don't get judged by the same standards as some players."

Luke Young now surely has a future at Villa Park! Thank god! Time to get Curtis Davies, Luke Young and Nigel Reo-Coker back in from the cold and get them playing more! Luke Young is one of the best right backs in the Premier League, we have no need to sell him, I'm sure just glad he didn't join Fulham or Liverpool yet.

not put a foot wrong, really hope he stays.

I think we should remember that Davies played with one shoulder for a few months. He put his body on the line for Villa. Naturally his performances suffered during this time, but how could they not? I think that Cuellar and Dunne are our strongest pairing at centreback, but I hope that Davies gets his fair share of game time. As for Luke Young, he's England's best right-back. He's played at a consistently high level for Villa and is of excellent character. His wages might be a little high and his contract too long, but that's hardly his fault. I hope that he plays for Villa as long as his performances warrant.
Albarnista
He's not as good as many of our fans seem to think he is, but I would still be delighted to see him stay. The amount of home games where teams defend deep and we have no natural attacking threat from our right full-back (through no fault of Cuellar's, may I add. It's not like it's his natural position, is it?) when the full-back positions get so much of the ball in this country, has been frustrating to put it mildly. Go on Luke, stick around fella.

Un-related to topic but just read on both Sky and ESPN what the General has said and i back him. Also says the club and Randy will make a statement....looking forward to that

I've just had a genious idea! Lets make HESKEY the new manager!! Think about it - he wouldn't be able to play!! Hang on - he could become a player/manager - arggggggg!
thorpyuk
Really hope he does stay, his first season with us was immense and is so much more of a right back than Cuellar. Same goes NRC, he's had a decent pre-season and to me I think he is better than Petrov who I don't really rate
jaceavfc
Yeah, brilliant. I hope he stays and I hope he's our starting right-back on Saturday. I also hope NRC and Davies stay and get a chance aswell.
Callum_ws
At least now, we may see some kind of rotation that we have been promised, something our first 11 really needed the last few seasons.
parkez17
I think this will be a huge blessing if we get the right man in. Our team clearly wasn't behind O'Neill (unless you were a favorite). I just wish this was done earlier for the transfer windows sake. I'm sure in the managerial interviews, they will be addressing transfer targets to make it happen within the next 2 weeks..
los_angeles_villan
Oh! and a new captain please? Richard Dunne me thinks..Petrov shouldn't be a shoe in every game, therefore shouldn't be captain.
los_angeles_villan
If a new guy comes in and decides to rock the ship and rotate players to see who is the best then I am pretty confident you will all see Sidwell staying and getting back to his best. A well balanced defense full of fit centrebacks vying for the chance to play and hopefully another striker.
koolbill
sidwell isnt good enough and would do anything in the champions league heskey must go also nrc davies i rate but for his own career i think he should leave as with collins doing so well its going to be difficul fo him beye hasnt had a chance

I think on the MON thing is a massive change in history as we could get a decent manager and finish in top 4, we could remain then same until the next season, we could become the struggling mid table team or worst of all. Relegation. for now I hope we finish in the top 7!
Avfc94 we do
Completely agree with Albarnista. Davies put his body on the line for Villa for weeks and suddenly he cant get a word in edge ways. Reo-coker was captain of the peace cup winning team, played a man of the match performance against Liverpool and couldnt get a word in edge ways. Luke Young had sometime off for his brothers death, retired from internationals to concentrate on Villa, got cheered so loud everytime he touched the ball by fans when he played at the end of last season but MON couldnt see why we wanted him in the line up so much. Im gutted to lose MON as he has got us where we are today, but im more worried about the future of our players. I hope we get a manager who maintains our ambition and makes our stars like Ash Young want to play for him.
AndyFC
Solid and reliable L Young, stay please and prove MON wrong!
holte ender 1969
I think that he will stay now, can't think of a manager that wouldn't want such a players services

Davies has been all over SSN saying that he never got a chance regardless of how he did in training. This has got to have affected all the non-preffered players confidence for when they were needed. Still annoyed at MON for the Chelsea 7-1 game where he only played some players (including Luke)to show everyone that he was right in not picking them in the first place whereas if they were rotated it wouldn't be a problem and when we came to sell them their value wouldn't have quartered because they were playing hardball as they'd been messed around by MON. Agree entirely with LA Villan, Dunne (or one of MON's non-teachers pets)for captain!!
