Ireland Discussions Resume

If rumours are to be believed Stephen Ireland has spoken with club officials today over his proposed move from Manchester City.

Sky Sports News, amongst others are carrying the news that Ireland has entered into further discussions with us despite the shock departure of Martin O'Neill yesterday.

There's no direct confirmation that he has attended Bodymoor Heath but it seems yet another strange peace of timing given only a few days ago it was reported that wages were a stumbling block and he was unsure even if he wanted to move to Villa, regardless of the City situation.

Hopefully we'll get something a little more concrete, but it would be a turn up for the books if the deal is now agreed given he presumably has no idea who the next man in the hotseat will be.

Don't want Ireland. He doesn't want us and we seem like his 4th choice. Maybe Lerner won't pay the wages that the rest of the top 6 (let alone City) are??

Hope this isn't true, signing players without knowing if the new manager will want them is absolute madness

I want someone no one else does - Holloway. He is brilliant.

glensider, in the interests of the club we have to sell Milner - unless he is willing to sign a new contract right now (which he might do, now that O'Neill has gone, though it seems unlikley). Man City may have decided that they will only do a deal with us if we take Ireland. This isn't an ideal scenario, granted, but Man City get to call the shots because they have the money. If Ireland is being valuedat 8m, I think that we would get that money back on him, even if he had an indifferent season. We won't get offered 25m for Milner again.

Wait for the new man...then keep Milner and bid for Ireland...creativity and energy...why not?

Who cares if we don't have a manager? I'm sure the new manager won't mind having Ireland, none of us seem to mind. It's not like the new manager will have many other options to choose from in centre-midfield. Plus the Milner deal has to go through soon

yep get the Milner deal going with Ireland as part ex. no problem for me there either. Ireland has a bit more to offer than Milner and is a creative spark we need.

You're not telling me anything I dont know or fully understand Albarnista. I'm all for shipping out Milner. As I've said all summer long, without the sale of Milly or Ash, or both, we wouldn't have even pocket change to spend in this transfer window. I'm saying that I dont like seeing Lerner and Faulkner pushing through deals. That should be the new managers job. Hopefully Ireland might decide to stall, after all, joining a managerless club isn't an ideal scenario. If he does call a halt and await so see who comes in, I for one wouldn't blame him one jot.

I wouldn't sell Milner as I think he'd stay now that Mon has gone...I would bid for Ireland tho

I'm sorry but Sidwell is better than Reo "run all day, i'm a bit like Gallas with that chip on my shoulder " Coker. Reo to go, Sidders to stay. Beye and Salifou should follow Harewood and Shorey...then we're 4 wages to revenue cute and should be able to buy Ireland and perhaps another striker....5m for Kenwyne Jones to Stoke but he's said no...GOT TO BE WORTH A PUNT!

I think it is Faulkner's job to deal in transfers. That's maybe why MON left.

Must say I am with GS on this one. Its a basic principle, out of respect to the incoming manager. No one in or out until the new manager can be consulted! Or has he been? Are we so close to the new manager that its just a matter of his own personal conditions?
