Friendly - Boldmere 0-2 Villa

A bit late, but continuing with the 'youth' trend, a young Villa reserve team put in an excellent showing in the final friendly of their pre season.

The first team squad still have to face Valencia as we know, and it's expected a good number of the reservists will be in action again to stake a first team claim, but as far as organised and fan friendly erm friendlies for the second string go, the match against Boldmere St Michaels is the last one on the fixture list before they gear up for the league campaign and see if we can manage FOUR consecutive seasons on the trot as Champions of the Barclays Southern division.

The lads selected were youthful, but strong.

Siegrist, Lichaj (Berry 75), Baker (Flanaghan 45), Clark (Deeney 72), Lowry, Forrester, Hogg, Salifou, Bannan, Collins Jnr (Taylor 72), Weimann (Halfhuid 75).

Unused Subs: Coton, Burke.

Eric Lichaj, who has been the surprise player of our first team pre season for me simply due to his improvement did his chances no harm after returning from the Guadiana Cup and after 20 minutes played a simple one two with Harry Forrester and fired the ball into the net from outside the box.

Andreas Weimann doubled our lead on 43 after a bit of a tussle before placing the ball in the back of the net.

Boldmere were by no means pushovers, and although Villa could've added a couple of additional goals to the total, it proved to be a great test for the boys.

Kevin MacDonald was obviously looking forward to bringing in some of last seasons FA Youth Cup stars, Siegrist got 90 minutes but his youthful colleagues Ellis Deeney, Connor Taylor, Durrell Berry and Arsenio Halfhuid all received 15-20 minutes for their troubles as they make their bids to make the break from youth football into this seasons reserve team.
