Villa Transfer Talk - All Links Point Outward!

Villa Transfer Talk - All Links Point Outward!

Well the press seem determined that someone from Aston Villa is going to Liverpool!

The talk since Roy Hodgson took the reigns at Anfield has been that Luke Young will be going for around £2.5million, a nasty loss for Villa, although a report today says that the move might be off as the player would have to take a pay cut so wants a pay off from Villa. This report is by James Nursey in The Mirror The 31 year old hasn't travelled with the squad to Portugal for the Guadiana Cup and MON is quoted in the Mirror report saying: 'He is having a think about it. If he chooses to go that's it, if he chooses to stay then he needs to start playing because with the new rules I have to name a 25-man squad for the Premier League.'

I'd not think too long if I was Luke, not unless he wants another season on the bench? Such a shame, looks a good player to most of us but no matter how you look at it, he has been frozen out and a thaw doesn't look very likely does it?

Oh for the love of ..... Why can't we at least get a rumour inward? I'm not talking about an actual player signed, just a rumour, they are so thin on the ground and this mornings (well, it is morning in USA where I'm on my hols anyway!) is no different.

The next link out is a surprise one, an exclusive report in The Mirror says that Liverpool are after Stiliyan Petrov to replace Javier Mascherano. The report says Hodgson is going to bid around £7million for the 30-year-old Bulgarian midfielder.

Interesting one, £7m is a decent price but he would need replacing unless MON finally decided to give Nigel Hokey Cokey a run in his correct position (?) but Petrov does do the ugly stuff, a lot of the donkey work that goes unnoticed but helps the team tick over in midfield.

Finally the obligatory John Carew to leave link. This one in the Daily Mail who link the big man to Turkish side Besiktas where he had a season in 2004.

Would be interesting to know the price as JC only has one year left on his contract, do Villa offer him a new deal or cash in now? On his day he is outstanding but ..... ? He does have many an off day and also a fair share of injuries. With that said, his experience and impact, even if as a sub coming on can't be denied (on his on days!)

He confuses me to be honest, I think he should have been up there with the Drogba's of the world and instead will always go down as a nearly man for me. I'd be cashing in personally ALTHOUGH not before we got in an able replacement which is easier said than done, all clubs want top strikers!

Maybe tomorrow we'll get a link inward? Or maybe even a signing, they usually happen when I'm on my holidays, hope this time isn't different, actually, that is a lie, I don't mind waiting until next Tuesday for signings so I am around for the article fun!

£7m for Petrov would be far too good to turn down. But I'd be staggered if Hodgson was lining a bid up. I reckon Carew's price would be £3-4m at most, meaning that selling him would be pointless, unless we were going to invest a significant sum in a younger striker of comparative quality. Which rules out Carlton Cole and Zamora, neither of whom are sufficiently younger than Carew, or of sufficient quality.

7M for Petrov and I'd drive him there myself. Petrov trys to do the dirty work but doesn't have the engine to perform the role ala Keane, Viera, Batty, Butt, Lennon etc. MON would never let him leave anyway.

7m is a good price for stan but its surprising how much we miss him when he does not play seemed to tire towards the end of last season but was immense the one before. WE have been linked to a move for hleb today. WOuld be a decentsigning imo.
