O'Neill To Quit If Young Gets Sold

Silly season is back in the media as the usual sources try and suggest a rift between Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner.

And over what, yes the sale of Ashley Young behind the managers back.

Not going to happen really is it, and in some ways it's daft to even mention the story and give it any more credence but given the story is backed by the most impressive source ever, and it's been a while since Tomato had his name in the papers, I'll give him his 15 seconds of fame.

From the truth outlet that gave us such gems as Cisneros and the never ending plane journey, The Mirror, have an article stating that O'Neill would consider his future at the club if Ashley Young was sold behind his back.

The impeccable truth comes from our old friend Tomato 'source close to O'Neill' who said whilst being deviantly entered by some chips:

'Young is priceless to Martin and if there was any attempt to enter into negotiations over his sale behind his back he would feel completely undermined and put in an untenable situation at the club.'

The tasty covering added that the James Milner situation was completely different because he 'intimated' he wanted to leave and has no intention of signing a new contract at the club.

These are claims Milner disputes.

It's just a non article in every way really, especially given the level of control O'Neill assumes within the club but given no doubt Randy has told Monny to offload the players who simply are taking a wage on the bench and never play we'll have to get used to more 'we are broke' stories along with 'falling out' stories by the tabloids.

Especially those that state the obvious (how many managers wouldn't quit if the Chairman by default started picking the team these days?) and then infer something completely different by association.

News just in...

O'Neill to consider future if Randy sold the club says source close to Mavis the tea lady.

O'Neill to consider future if he suffers health problems says source close to caretaker at O'Neill's local surgery.

O'Neill to consider future if 75% of the squad are injured for the whole season and we get relegated says source close to the third cousin of a brothers sister's best friend at Primary school.

ps I made those up, this journalism lark is easy.

to be honest i dont really care if he goes or stays anymore, but sadly he is the best man for the job cause we would not get wenger, mourinho etc. the manager i would really love is maradonna :-) he loves to make the front line exciting, and oneil last year compalained when he got offended that we r long nall specialists, sadly the way he plays people that is true. he has 1 year left then will complain he did not have enough money even though he has spent millions, i loved u oneil but ur record is getting a bit boring, but saying that u have the chance to do something special this yearand turn around evrything like alex ferguson did in 1999 (is he did not win the champions league that year he would have benn sacked) and to change that make sure are attacking line up r exciting, as without goals its one boring game to watch......

You should never read the red tops certainly not in public, the whole thing is becoming a serious boar. Milner will go, Ash will stay and the it is a question of the new players we will get. By the way I hope Milner is not booed, he did a great job for us. I for one wish him the best of luck and thnak him for his efforts. By the way what a win for Boh's on Saturday? great to see Villla in Dublin again. COTV

Small part of me still clinging on to the hope that he will stay...O'neill says intimated he wanted to move??? not sure what that means, did he or not??? Maybe cause he will not sign a new contract which does give O'neill & Lerner food for thought...he defo has not come out & said he wants to stay though!!! Just needs sorting & quickly...

Am certain that it's best he goes. He'll do a Barry and play like a pro for 1 more season (if given the chance by O'Neill), then we'll have to let him go for 10Mil next summer with only 1 year left on his contract. We'd do better to cash in now and build the squad with the money. Champs league is the only thing that will make 'top' players stay. I don't think Millie is a great player. A good one, yes. But we'd be doing very very very well to sell him for 20M plus Ireland.
