Heskey Hangs Up His Boots

Heskey Hangs Up His Boots

For England folks, calm down. Yes the professionals favourite player, and fans scapegoat (sometimes rightly) has finally hung up his England boots and retired.

Speaking on the Official Site today Emile admitted it was time to call erm time, on his 3 Lions career but stressed his immense pride in gaining 62 caps.

62 caps that spanned two World Cups and two European Championships and garnered him seven goals. Unbelievable really isn'tit.

'I have enjoyed every moment of my England career and worn the shirt with pride every time I have been fortunate enough to have been selected. I wish the management team and the playing squad all the best for the future.'

We all have our own thoughts and feelings on Emile representing Villa, let alone England, but the fact remains in the last World Cup if half of the so called stars had shown the same effort Heskey did in the first few matches maybe it wouldn't have been such a laugh...sorry disappointment.

He said himself it was time for a new breed to come through and rightly he, like many....many others should never be selected again. At least Heskey has the self respect to make the decision and step aside because we all know when push comes to shove again Fabio will ask the old guard back and stick with his favourites, although I suspect like Scholes, Heskey wouldn't be interested in taking the place of somebody who helped them qualify should he ever be asked again in the future.

If only Heskey had shown the same kind of desire for Villa that he did for England, maybe he'd be more popular with the Villa faithful.

Did Beckham say he wanted to play in the next world cup?

Anyone else think that this is the first of a few phone calls from Cappello advising certain players (the old guard) to "retire"...... Or just wishful thinking.

Well played Emile. Take a bow. You're not my favourite footballer throughout the years, but amassing sixty-two international caps is no mean achievement, and is something you can look back upon with pride. Time to retire from the England set-up? Yes, I think so, but you've experienced and enjoyed quite a ride there, so good luck to you.
