Steve Staunton believes Stephen Warnock will be on a high following his England inclusion, and that Villa will benefit greatly from it next season.
Speaking on the Official Site former left back Stan doesn't think Warnock will be too disappointed with England's joke at the World Cup, because he will be focusing on the fact that he battled his way into the squad and will see that as a huge positive and confidence boost.
'Stephen didn't feature too much before the tournament and didn't play at all during the even itself but to be called up will have been a major boost him.'
Stan knows Warnock reasonably well from the time they spent together at Coventry back in 2003, and Stan says it was clear back then Warnock was going to have a decent career describing him as tenacious, having great running power and loving to tackle and he thinks he's a big reason why Villa's back 4 were so decent last season.
It's obvious Warnock will be determined to keep his England shirt having worked so hard to become the 'back up' for so called best left back in the world Ashley Cole, so we should definitely see more consistency from him this season. He will want to push on and improve further and even though he was hampered by injury as last season tailed off, he strikes you as the kind of player that wouldn't have been happy with his form regardless.
He's had the taste, and I doubt he could've done worse than Cole - Jesus he'd have been better in the centre than Terry against Germany - Villa should definitely see the benefit, and that suits me as that's all I care about.
