Shhhhhh. All is quiet even on the rumour front! Only bit I can find today is in the Mirror by James Nursey.
The Mirror report says that Robbie Keane will be on his way to Villa once we make the money from the James Milner sale with the report insisting we have to sell first.
I am not sure if this is right or if it is just a different interpretation to what Randy Lerner says. My belief is that MON does need to clear out some of the high wages players who aren't being played but that there are funds there to do transfers now if the right target is available. I don't believe the board are resting on their laurels and just waiting before making enquiries and moving for players.
So, we have another link to Robbie Keane although it states no bid has been made (despite rumours last week that Robbie had been seen at Bodymoor Heath!)
Interestingly we are also being linked to 30-year-old Brazilian Fabio Aurelio who is free to leave Liverpool having rejected a pay as you play deal (having suffered many injuries).
The utility player would be brought in for cover in several areas apparently.
There is also another link to 24-year-old Celtic star Aiden McGeady.
Think the action will start in the next week or so, usually takes one big move to trigger a domino effect across the market, fingers crossed we are amongst the transfers!
Meanwhile Villa boss Martin O'Neill has told the official site that the speculation should end soon as things 'hot up now over the next couple of weeks.' Adding, 'From my own viewpoint, I would like players to stay here and try and build. Sometimes that is not always possible but we have got a couple of weeks now and we will review the position. But for us to have even the same sort of season as last year, one, we would have to be a bit lucky and, two, we would have to try and strengthen.'
Vital Villa is now available on both facebook and twitter, so if you are that way inclined and more importantly understand all this new fangled dangled stuff, feel free to watch us, poke us or whatever else you are meant to do there!
