Heskey Backs Delboy To Make An Impact

Heskey Backs Delboy To Make An Impact

Emile Heskey strongly believes that Nathan Delfouneso will make the grade for England and will become a household name during the U19 European Championships.

Speaking to Sky Sports News Heskey said that he thinks it's time for Delboy to shine and really stake a claim for a first team spot at the Villa this season.

He says that we've already seen flashes of what the young striker can do, it's now down to him to show that he can do that consistently and that when he is given a chance, whether it's at the Euro's or for Villa he needs to really step up to the plate and start standing out.

'Nathan has done really well, he hasn't had that many chances, but when he has he has shown what he is capable of.'

If he can do that, and really make a name for himself Heskey thinks that he is more than capable of becoming not only a good player for Villa in the future, but also that he can make his way into the full England set up if he keeps developing as he has been.

'He is a great prospect for the future, you've got to bide your time but when you get an opportunity, take it, and Nathan knows that himself.'

Heskey is probably more confident about his colleague than you would expect him to be given his age and relative experience because he has worked his way through the International levels so successfully so far. He goes into the European Champs with 9 goals in 21 games at the U19 level and of course he secured the Golden Boot award in the 2009 tournament, so he clearly knows where the net is.

He just needs to make the step up properly for us or possibly get a decent loan and regular football to give him that extra confidence and give him that extra experience.

It's going to be a big season for a number of our youngsters this year, and hopefully they'll get the break they need so we know for sure if they are capable of being stars for the future.

Got to admire Emile Heskey... has a disastrous World Cup... comes home, puts a frock on and wins the womens title at Wimbledon.
