SWP? Surely Not? Tuesdays Villa Transfer Talk

The Sun say that Villa, Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City all have an interest in free to leave Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole and that Liverpool new boy Roy Hodgson has also joined the race. Not sure where the race takes place or if they are selling tickets?

The Express & Star have a snippet saying that Villa have enquired about the availability of Manchester City and England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips. Not convinced on that one, if Ashley Young was on his way out (he isn't) then maybe but I can't see where he'd fit in with the current squad?

Talking of Ashley Young, the Liverpool Daily Post have an article by Philip Kirkbride saying that despite interest in the 25-year-old winger, MON won't let his prized asset leave.

More quotes from Forest boss Billy Davies or are the same quotes, they do look similar, about Nicky Shorey. He told this is nottingham 'It would be a no brainer for us to look at Nicky if he was available. If he is somebody we could possibly sign, then we have to look at it. He impressed everyone during his loan spell at the club. He fitted in with the players and slotted into the squad perfectly. If something can be done, if we can bring him to the club again, then we have to look at it.'

Another snippet says we'll bid £8million bid for Celtic winger Aiden McGeady although I can see no substance, source of quote to the latest link.

The Guardian continue on the 'Scott Parker is not available' theme quoting David Sullivan, amidst rumours that Villa are set to bid £10m (which lets face it, probably aren't true anyway) saying: 'The last time I spoke to Scott, he was enthusiastic for staying. At the moment we have not had any offers for him.'

No for all of the above and more that I can't be bothered to list. This transfer window will tell us whether MoN has the potential to take Villa on or not. Really will have lost what remaining brownie points he has if he buys SWP.

If SWP is coming Villa's way then Downing will be in the Middle of the field like he was at Boro - that will be MON's game plan!
