£10M Parker rumour is surely false?
So it looks like James Milner will either sign a new contract at Aston Villa or we are selling him to Manchester City for a fee somewhere between £28million and £32million.
Before I would have said that selling James Milner would be a disaster for us, but at that price? What a great deal that would be!
Now that the papers have assumed Milner is leaving they have come up with a few potential replacements. One being Stephen Ireland, another Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas, along with many more. But one link is surely 100% false; Scott Parker for £10million?
We all know West Ham don't want to sell him, but also, Parker is injury prone, he is 30-years-old in October and has had one good season for West Ham in which he got a call up to Fabio's 30 man squad. but wasn't good enough to make the final 23 man squad.
With Martin O'Neill constantly saying how Aston Villa is being 'run as a business' and the club is looking to progress in the league and financially I find it hard to believe a £10m bid for Scott Parker would even be considered. He would have no re-sale value, would be injured throughout the season and even when fit is not the standard of player we are aiming for. Remember that we paid less than that for Ashley Young!
With this rumour surely complete rubbish, who would we actually be targeting if Milner left? I for one hope he stays, but I think I can remember back when we signed Milner that we were also chasing Spurs and former Blackburn Rover midfielder/winger David Bentley.
Maybe MON wants to work his magic again and sign Bentley, then move him into the middle of the park? Personally that wouldn't be my first choice but it is a real possibility. But if Milner did leave us (I hope he doesn't), who would you want to replace him in the middle? Surely not Scott Parker though. Maybe it's even somebody already at the club. What are people thinking?
