IF Milner Goes - Who Should Replace Him?

IF Milner Goes - Who Should Replace Him?

£10M Parker rumour is surely false?

So it looks like James Milner will either sign a new contract at Aston Villa or we are selling him to Manchester City for a fee somewhere between £28million and £32million.

Before I would have said that selling James Milner would be a disaster for us, but at that price? What a great deal that would be!

Now that the papers have assumed Milner is leaving they have come up with a few potential replacements. One being Stephen Ireland, another Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas, along with many more. But one link is surely 100% false; Scott Parker for £10million?

We all know West Ham don't want to sell him, but also, Parker is injury prone, he is 30-years-old in October and has had one good season for West Ham in which he got a call up to Fabio's 30 man squad. but wasn't good enough to make the final 23 man squad.

With Martin O'Neill constantly saying how Aston Villa is being 'run as a business' and the club is looking to progress in the league and financially I find it hard to believe a £10m bid for Scott Parker would even be considered. He would have no re-sale value, would be injured throughout the season and even when fit is not the standard of player we are aiming for. Remember that we paid less than that for Ashley Young!

With this rumour surely complete rubbish, who would we actually be targeting if Milner left? I for one hope he stays, but I think I can remember back when we signed Milner that we were also chasing Spurs and former Blackburn Rover midfielder/winger David Bentley.

Maybe MON wants to work his magic again and sign Bentley, then move him into the middle of the park? Personally that wouldn't be my first choice but it is a real possibility. But if Milner did leave us (I hope he doesn't), who would you want to replace him in the middle? Surely not Scott Parker though. Maybe it's even somebody already at the club. What are people thinking?

I'd rather it was Ireland than those rumours about McGeady....

Pepe or montolivo who played for italy in the world cup from are real quality players who we could realistically sign if we showed any imagination or balls, but as our manager is not that type i wouldn`t mind stephen ireland coming the other way as part of the deal.

I'd play downing in CM as he's not great as a winger because he cant beat his man, and buy a quality winger :>

Ireland could be very good, however I would worry about what is going on in his head. After all he has buried about 4 Grannies and refuses to play for his Country because someone slagged him about his hair style.

I've long thought milner would be leaving, but with the signings of toure and Silva in midfield, will he even get a game at city. These signings have got to impact on his decision. That being said ireland would be a great replacement, someone who can unlock defensive when the inevitable 10 men behind the ball happens at VP next season

I agree that Ireland could be problematic. Good talent, but his mentality? Lets look for real quality. Stephen Defeouror Rafael Van der Vart. Wouldn't mind Bentley. Not sure about Jenas. Parker only £5m though no more. The LONG term answer is already at VP IMO...Fabian Delph..Great shame about the injury. Downing playing central could be a great shout in a three man central midfield

Jenas... NO. Bentley... maybe, for about £6m. But he's not a replacement for the new & improved sparkly central midfielder Milner. Defour or Sessegnon maybe (admittedly these are just names to me, but if they're as good as everyone says they are then go for it) but that of course means looking abroad. One rumour I saw today said that Pompey want £10m for Boateng AND Belhadj. Don't we need an attacking CM (with a bit of craft) and a LB? OK, Boateng's attitude stinks, but he's young, can score, has a touch of flair, and at around £6m, I reckon is cheap is chips!!!

oh and on the Ireland thing... doesn't he drive a pink Range Rover? Hmmm, I too have massive reservations over the mans mental state.
