I thank you ladies and gentleman of Vital Villa, Milner to England's rescue. I said it, it happened...now for the lottery numbers.
After joining the match 6 minutes in following the assumption there would be no claret and blue involvement, I barely finished writing the Milly Called Upon ramble where our very own James picked the ball up on the right wing, and curled in the most perfect of perfect crosses for Defoe to slam the ball into the net.
1-0 Milner.
It wasn't the only tasty cross he put but as is so often the case for Villa, the strikers were static and simply couldn't capitalise on it.
The engine of the man has been obvious to us all, and his whole performance was full of effort, running and class. He attacked admirably to try and create more, he tracked back and defending solidly when needed.
The final few minutes saw him sat on the corner flag shouting to the Slovenian players not even Chuck Norris is going to get this ball...so instead they booted him to the ground and he just got back up and tried to do it again!
So England go through with a whimper really, scraped through in second place after what was a good first half, and a thoroughly diabolical second half.
Can't be bothered to moan about the overhyped again today, their performances were as usual in the grand scheme of things.
Most will be happy no doubt, Milner should be very happy with his contribution but I really am getting bored of pundits suggesting that's the best England have ever played, 'the shackles were off', we had a spring in our step.
Did they not watch the second half?
Emile also got on the pitch for 5 odd minutes, but by then we were content with the 1 goal lead and that sub proved it.
Oh well last 16 here we come, expect the same to be served again.
