Villa vs Slovenia

I thank you ladies and gentleman of Vital Villa, Milner to England's rescue. I said it, it happened...now for the lottery numbers.

After joining the match 6 minutes in following the assumption there would be no claret and blue involvement, I barely finished writing the Milly Called Upon ramble where our very own James picked the ball up on the right wing, and curled in the most perfect of perfect crosses for Defoe to slam the ball into the net.

1-0 Milner.

It wasn't the only tasty cross he put but as is so often the case for Villa, the strikers were static and simply couldn't capitalise on it.

The engine of the man has been obvious to us all, and his whole performance was full of effort, running and class. He attacked admirably to try and create more, he tracked back and defending solidly when needed.

The final few minutes saw him sat on the corner flag shouting to the Slovenian players not even Chuck Norris is going to get this ball...so instead they booted him to the ground and he just got back up and tried to do it again!

So England go through with a whimper really, scraped through in second place after what was a good first half, and a thoroughly diabolical second half.

Can't be bothered to moan about the overhyped again today, their performances were as usual in the grand scheme of things.

Most will be happy no doubt, Milner should be very happy with his contribution but I really am getting bored of pundits suggesting that's the best England have ever played, 'the shackles were off', we had a spring in our step.

Did they not watch the second half?

Emile also got on the pitch for 5 odd minutes, but by then we were content with the 1 goal lead and that sub proved it.

Oh well last 16 here we come, expect the same to be served again.

Agreed gents... quality final balls all game from Milner... made up for his rubbish first half against the Yanks when he was by far the worst player on the field ;-)

Best man on the field, constantly creating options and swinging in beautiful crosses. That's why we want to keep him at Villa. To any Man City fans reading, it's now 40million. And as for the game itself, man am I glad that's over, why they defended a 1 goal lead at the end, putting themselves on the backfoot I will never know. Now to watch Germany ***** up (hopefully)

lol Watford, be fair he hadn't trained, had been ill and shouldn't have played anyway. That's his excuse and we are all sticking to it!

He actually started really shakey, but he grew into the game great. Great crossing and work ethic especially in that second half, he was magnificent. I love him! JT man of the match though

I thought Milner played well in his best position (right midfield as opposed to right wing). Rooney and particularly Barry were the only England players to play poorly, but I thought Lampard was man of the match, with Milner perhaps in second place. Credit to Gerrard who showed that he is perfectly capable of doing the necessary job out on the left as long as he is disciplined and works hard. Germany are nothing to be scared of, and although our form isn't as good as theirs, our players are significantly better, and if a corner has been turned today, then we are big favourites. Argentina, Spain and Brazil will be much tougher opposition though.

james milner was the star, i would have taken rooney off, just to get him stirred up for the next match, he is really playing badly at the moment. that germany match aint going to be easy. i think we need to get into the germans kitchen and put some chillis in their sausages before they play us:)
