Vital Villa asked:
Should Emile Heskey be dropped for England?
Just to explain, this isn't picking on a Villa player to be negative, just his inclusion has always been a topic of debate and to be fair, unless it is Villa related, England matters are meant to be discussed on Vital England (for newsnow/googlenews as well as fairness to Vital England!)
60% voted 'Shouldn't even be at WC'
18% voted that he should be dropped.
11% voted that he shouldn't and a further 11% suggested both he and Rooney should be dropped (me included in that one, I would start with Crouch and Defoe!)
Bit harsh in some ways as Heskey has put in more effort than Rooney and pretty much any other England player (damning with feint praise) and set up the Gerrard goal, however..... So many frustrations with the big fella and so little end product. Winning the headers is one thing, doing something with the won ball is another!
Anyway, here are some comments that the debate has produced:
In short, yes! Heskey is in the team to benefit Rooney but Rooney is way off form. Capello won't drop him due to the hope he'll do something special in a flash. Heskey won't do that though so due to the dire need for goals, he has to be dropped for Defoe. JayVFC
Yes he should, but i can't see Capello leaving him out to be honest. If Capello makes major changes as everyone is calling for, he will lose face, by sticking to same as, apart from a forced change UPSON for Carragher, Capello has proved to be right. Another point is why did he and does keep sticking James Milner wide left, when his best football has come from central midfield, drop Lampard, bring in Milner, Play Gerrard closer to Rooney, Joe Cole wide left, Barry started out as a centre half, play him in the holding role, simple instructions, give it short and simple.. If it was me; JAMES; JOHNSON;TERRY;UPSON;LENNON;MILNER;BARRY;COLE;GERRARD;ROONEY spu 4 life
gabby should have gone instead Avfc94 we do
I'm not just saying this coz I'm a villa fan. but if we aren't gonna play Joe Cole on the left and lack balance Ash Young should have gone. He could also play on the right and has improved his defensive game (ie. support that awful defender glen johnson) AndyFC
Only because we should drop rooney - drop rooney, and emule has no place - play crouch and defoe victort
Why the ***** is the plonker even in the team to be honest??? Mix26
there's 2 reasons he went though: 1.he plays for the mighty villa and 2.everybody else plays slot better with him in the squad but gabby should have gone instead though Avfc94 we do
In a word 'yes' Wswilly3
I cant see what he brings to the game .. he keeps falling over all the time looking for free kicks . Doug4ever
Yes Emile should be dropped (from a great height!) AVFC4ME
He seemed the only player who gave a **** against the USA and Algeria... if Capello had any balls he would drop Terry and Rooney for their outbursts, drop Lampard and Lennon as they have done nothing so far. Lock Wright-Philips in a cupboard and let him out when we're out and choose from whatever remains. I'll be glad to see the back of the so called 'Golden Generation'. Too rich to play... ****s! Rawlie
depends whether your country likes scoring goals or not.. do you? seems to me that heskey is there only because the golden child says he likes playing with him. well get over yourself waaayne because you've done f*&% all and its time to put two genuine goal scorers on the pitch. gerrard and lampard simply dont work together in the centre of the field. i think capello is hoping star power will get you over the line whereas balance is more likely to. avfc94.. everybody plays better with him in the squad? how many goals have you scored so far? as many as australia and you've played weaker teams! lucky everyone is playing so well then qldvillan
In my opinion he has been far from the worst player on the pitch, but i'd drop him in favour of someone with an end product... maybe Joe Cole or James Milner? I'd move Gerrard inside because he's useless on the left, and put Cole left midfield. Have Gerrard playing just behind Rooney (who just looks injured to me) thorpyuk
On Vital Villa facebook,
JMc 'they should drop the lot of em...'
MB 'no, rooney should be dropped'... the rest would make you blush so I'll not repeat it! ;o)
RF 'Heskey is a joke, I never want to see him play football again'
NR 'I would argue that no one has in fact ever seen Heskey playing football!'
Ouch, tough crowd!
Of course, if he does play on Wednesday, we'll all wish him nothing but luck. COME ON ENGLAND... COME ON HESKEY!
Football? Fickle? Never!
