Rehabilitation Is Delphinitely Underway

Rehabilitation Is Delphinitely Underway

Fabian Delph is upbeat about his recovery from his knee injury after finally discarding his crutches and standing on his own two feet again.

Speaking on the Official Site today Delph revealed he was delighted with his progress so far and that he hopes to hit the gym again over the coming weeks.

As folks will probably remember during a training session last April, Delph ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and also suffered a torn meniscus (means nothing to me either, think it means he was crocked) and it's been 6 weeks since surgery but whilst team mates are in South Africa or sunning themselves on holiday, Delph has been turning up religiously at Bodymoor Heath receiving treatment so he can be raring to go as soon as is medically possibly next season.

'It is six weeks since I had my operation so I can throw away the crutches and start walking and do a lot more. Hopefully I'll be getting a lot more strength in my leg and I'll be fighting and coming back stronger.'

Current opinion is that Delph will be back on the bike and weights in the six weeks but as ever the medical staff have to temper the youthful desire to return to action with the risks of pushing too far too early. they would still prefer him to take the full 9 months to recover because of the meniscus tear but his own aim is to be back on the pitch properly within 7 months, which could see him play some part in our final few games.

Recognising this, as well as their support, Delph has high praise for Alan Smith, Stuart Walker and Paul Rastrick especially, as well as other colleagues.

'Alan is vital, he is a very good physio. There is not just him, there is Stuart and there is also the doctors and Razza.'

He adds that they have all been brilliant with him and have been determined to keep him smiling and laughing throughout to keep his spirits high.

'The treatment has been superb since I've done it, so I can't thank them enough. Team mates have been brilliant, texting me asking how I am.

'I can't ask for any more, to be honest. It has been perfect.'

Sounds like he's won an Oscar thanking his friends and family...he also reserved high praise for surgeon Andy Williams, but for those quotes you'll have to click on the official site link above as I think I've used enough already!

Let's hope he makes a full recovery from his injury and gets all the opportunities he needs to show whether he can cut it at the top level.

He is one I would like to see more of in the team when he has fully recovered, along with two or three other youngsters.

an acl and meniscus injury is bad. think of think of it as a platform being supported by a left, middle and right pillar. his left and middle pillar is wobbling leaving his right pillar to support the platform....

This is very good news, positive and upbeat. I'm certainly encouraged by what I've seen of the young man since his arrival at Birmingham B6, and to get him back into the fold, fit and raring, will be a boost indeed. He has a little bit of Alex Cropley about him, probably one of the reasons I took to him immediately, and once he gets an extended opportunity in the starting line up, I have the feeling that he'll take some shifting. Good Luck to him as he continues his return to fitness.
