Time For Ambition Or Lower Expectations?

With Joe Cole confirming he will be leaving Chelsea, should we not be fighting tooth and nail at trying to get him to Villa Park and showing some real ambition at selling this great club to him?

Don't get me wrong I am realistic and know there will be some top clubs in for him this summer but if we are to progress this is the sort of signing we should be trying to compete for.

With JM looking like a cert to move on we need a playmaker in the middle of the park who can get about people, create and run games. I know this may not have been a position he has played before on a regular basis but neither was Milner before this season.

Sell it to him he will be the top man, build your side round him, make him feel special and you just never know. He might relish the responsibility of the role and want to feel loved unlike at Chelsea n a big pond with other top players and not getting a regular chance.

Its a long shot I agree and there will be people who laugh at the thought of us competing with a Man Utd or Arsenal for his signature but unless we start trying for these sort of players there is only one way we are going to go and that is towards midtable with not even a whiff of a top 4 finish.

If its a case that we cant afford him and players of that ilk and we end up with the Kris Boyd's and Martin Petrov's of this world the its time us fans lowered the expectations and excepted that it will be top 8 at best with no real chance of progression.

It might sound negative but lets face facts, there aren't many teams who get better by not improving on the players they have. I can go through another season relying on Ashley Young being our chief playmaker for him to turn up against Wigan and Blackpool but completely disappearing against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Time to decide which way we want to go...easier said than done but at least lets have a go.

Personally if we are after a Chelsea reject I'd want Ballack. I know his age is against him but he is pure quality

ballack would be class in the middle but i doubt we could get him but agree with the article if mon came out and said id love ballack and cole at villa. He would be making a big statement of intent and maybe even show milner that we are serious about pushing on and challenging for trophys and champs league place. But then again city would probably just offer them both silly wages and have them sit on the bench all season. just realized how much i despise city

Why stop there?? Go for the recently released Belletti as well!!

I'd love us to go for the likes of Ballack & Cole - i think a 'big name' signing is what everyone wants to see at the club - bring a bit of feel good factor in =)

My expectations will rise when we get a top class manager at the club. Until that happens we'll be also-rans.

Alb', VOTH wasn't saying anything about your view just the lavish amounts of times that it is partnered with good points on other subjects.....I wonder as do you, would other players, better players come if MoN was not incharge....any pundit on the TV seems to thin he is brill and reckon he attracts players which may be true but as with Benitez; every manager has a shelf life at a club and can hit a ceiling and I think maybe this coming season is it...if we don't push on in terms of strikers or midfield creativity then you may well see MoN go.
