Sunday's Villa Transfer Talk + WOW Player Required

Busy day for gossip today!

What is it with these Spurs players, we are linked every time a transfer window comes along!? According to The Daily Star Martin O'Neill will move for Spurs duo David Bentley and Jermaine Jenas in a deal worth £15million.

Other reports suggest that Jenas is a £7million target for Stoke but this one says that he'd cost around £5million to move to Villa with Bentley costing £10m.

The Mirror have the obligatory James Milner article today. They say that Manchester City will offer £25million in a 'take it or leave it' final bid.

Ok, we'll leave it, thanks anyway!

Yesterday's transfer talk (Click Here) said that Manchester City would pay £30million, he must have had a poor day training with England yesterday for his value to go down so quickly!

According to The Sunday Mirror Villa and Spurs are tracking 19-year-old centre-back Jonathan Mensah who is set to play for Ghana at the World Cup this summer. Lazio and Juventus are also linked.

imscouting has a story from La Nazione (Florence newspaper) claiming we'll bid 7million Euro's for 30-year-old Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastian Frey.

And talking about keepers, Andy Marshall has been released by Villa: Click Here

Meanwhile Graham Taylor has said that you can't criticise MON but if there was one thing the fans would love to see it is a 'marquee signing'. Speaking to Andy Walker at the Sunday Mercury the former Villa and England boss says: 'I think if I was going to say anything on behalf of the Villa supporters, I think some of their frustration is that they`ve been looking for what you would call a 'wow` signing and I don`t think Martin is in to that. I think that`s what Villa supporters have been expecting and I think that they are disappointed that they haven`t had one. I think a lot of them feel that would make the difference.'

Adding 'But you cannot complain about Martin O`Neill`s reign, people will but at the moment you can`t. What Martin knows is that after four years it`s his team. Martin can`t say that he`s still changing things from the David O`Leary reign. You can`t when you`ve been there four years - it`s his team. I just feel that the Villa supporters would like this marquee signing then they would really buy into it."

Villa don't need a "wow" player per se, because "wow" players cost daft amounts, be it transfer fee or wages. Must better would be to get a younger player, or perhaps an older player who has become disillusioned, and turn them into a "wow". Then again, if Mark Hughes does take over in the summer, he may bring some of his former charges from Man City with him.

Very good post Gordonsleftboot, one I fully concur with. Ron Saunders always stated that it was a team game, and only when that team was fully committed and completely pulling together could individuals flourish and become 'stars'. Cant agree that we should have brought Hitz back, dont really believe that his signing would have helped the push forward. He has supposedly faded over the past eighteen months or so, losing the captaincy at Stuttgart, and failing to leave his mark in Italy, and I think that I'm right in saying that he has missed out on Germany's final World Cup twenty three. A move to West Ham will I would hope re-ignite his career, but in truth, surely we need to be looking higher. At twenty eight or so also, shouldn't we be looking at bringing down the average age of our team. This young team myth seems to mislead a lot of people.
