Andy Marshall Released By Villa

35-year-old Aston Villa keeper Andy Marshall has confirmed to the Sunday Mercury that his contract won't be renewed.

Marshall was taken on last summer on a one year deal to offer cover but has seen his time spoilt by an ankle injury.

He said: 'I`ve enjoyed my time at Villa but I`ve been released now and I`m looking for a new club - I still think I`ve got a few years left in me. I`m keeping my options open but I want to stay at a high level and it would be nice to be in the Championship.'

We signed him clarkamus because of our involvement in competitive european club football, and MON no doubt wanted three senior keepers to help carry us through the additional workload. Sadly of course our involvement in the UEFA Cup was short lived. From what I saw of Marshall, he looked a decent enough keeper, arguably a better back up to Friedel than was Guzan, and he'll have no trouble finding another club. He looked to have a few years left in him yet.
