Fieldy: Friendlies: Benfica, Feyenoord and now Walsall are on our list as warm ups to next season. The Walsall match will take place at the Banks's Stadium on Tuesday 27 July, with a 7.45pm kickoff. Then we head to Portugal to compete in the Guadiana Cup wherein we will meet Feyenoord on July 31, before meeting Benfica on August 1. Both games kick off at 9.15pm and will take place in the 11,000 San Antonio Stadium.
Fieldy: Aston Villa have announced that Spanish giants Valencia will travel to B6 for the big friendly of the pre season. The game takes place on August 6, with a 7.45pm kick off, however there will be a series of 'activities' before kick off to keep the family entertained. I'm assuming we'll hear more of those planned activities in due course. The friendly is a throwback to our fantastic pre season win in the 2007-08 season against Inter Milan, and the game proves to be half as good we'll be in for a thrill.

Obediah: Will Villa play with a Squad or stick with just a Team next season? Many moons ago in what was, for me, almost a different lifetime, I came across an extract from the writings and thinking of Albert Einstein, the great mathematician, which in paraphrase stated 'The work that we have made, as a result of the thinking that we have done thus far, creates problems that cannot be solved by the level of thinking that created the problems'. It sounds almost like gobbledegook, but it carries a fundamental truth along the lines of 'If things go wrong or don`t work out don`t keep doing the same thing and hope that everything will sort itself out, because the chances are that won`t happen.' Or, to put it another way 'If you are in a hole stop digging'. Full article: Squad Or Team Next Season For Villa?

You have to watch this video of John Carew... no seriously, you really have to! John Carew REALLY IS Bigger Than Me & You
And if you like that one, watch this one! DON'T Mess With Carlos Cuellar...!
Fieldy: Carlos has admitted disappointment at not making the Spanish World Cup squad, but he knows he's young enough to still make an impact at International level and that's what he plans to do. Speaking on the Official Site Cuellar said his loyalties would be torn between supporting Spain and cheering on his Villa team mates in the England camp. Ideally he'd like a Spain v England final, but I think we all know the chances of that happening. Full quotes: Carlos Still Dreaming Of Spanish Call Up
And so the tapping up starts... (continues?) Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given has been talking about another club's player, in this instance our very own James Milner who he says he would love to see at Man City. He said on Sky Sports News 'He has had a great season at Aston Villa. He played some fantastic football when I was at Newcastle with him as well. He's a quality all round player. He has got bags of ability, a great left foot and right foot, so he's a very good talent. If he comes to the club great, if he doesn't he has had a great time under Martin O'Neill at Aston Villa.' Well, this is the link I keep saying will happen! According to News of the World Villa will soon open talks with Spurs striker Robbie Keane who spent half of last season on loan at Celtic According to this report he'd now cost £18million though! So he has gone from £10m to £15m and is now worth £18m. What has he done in the last month to go up in value so much! lol More transfer talk: Villa Keane On Spurs Striker + Transfer Talk
Fieldy: Nigel Reo-Coker's agent has stated that the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association has been courting the midfielder for the past 5 years. Although agent, Tony Finnigan, has not spoken to Hokey about the latest attempt, he did comment that he would be perfect to drive the African team forward, but it would involve him giving up on his England dream. Fieldy: Martin O'Neill tonight lavished praise on Heskey, Milner and Warnock as all three players made Fabio Capello's final 23. Speaking on the Official Site following the announcement O'Neill positively beamed satisfaction at the selections, calling them 'a fantastic honour' not just for the players concerned but also in recognition of Villa's record setting success at having 3 players selected for a World Cup squad. 'I am delighted that three have made the squad and it was particularly pleasing really for Stephen because he may have thought his chances had been lessened somewhat by not participating in either of the two warm up games.' So following a meeting with the Club, it appears they were still not able to get any commitment moving forward from James Milner according to the press today. There was a meeting with Chairman Randy Lerner, CEO Paul Faulkner and Martin O'Neill with the player to assure him of his future and of Villa's ambition but the midfielder wouldn't commit. Full details: Exit For James Milner? Seems Likely Now? Updated
On a quiet gossip day, only bit I could find yesterday was The Mirror who say that Villa will bid £5million for Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha. Apparently the 23-year-old former England U21 centre-back signed a new deal with the club last summer but is frustrated at his lack of first team chances. Thing is, how will that change if he moves to Villa? He can also play at full-back. Everton and Newcastle United have also been linked.
Thought for the day: My wife said she is going to leave me because I'm way too obsessed with football. Shame really, we've been married for about 12 seasons.
