Villa Score England Hattrick In WC Squad

Back of the net! Villa have scored an England hattrick with James Milner, Emile Heskey and Stephen Warnock all getting the nod in Fabio Capello's final squad.

Congratulations to the three of them.

Squad:

J Hart, D James, R Green;

J Carragher, A Cole, R Ferdinand, G Johnson, L King, J Terry, M Upson, S Warnock;

G Barry, M Carrick, J Cole, S Gerrard, F Lampard, A Lennon, J Milner, S Wright-Phillips;

P Crouch, J Defoe, E Heskey, W Rooney.

Young-Jonah pointed out earlier,

'Not sure whether they will be at the World Cup yet, but found out today, that Villa have only ever supplied 5 players to England for World Cups. Thats right, only 5 Villa players have ever been part of the England squad that has travelled to a World Cup.'

They are:-

1982 - Peter Withe
1986 - Steve Hodge
1990 - David Platt
1998 - Gareth Southgate
2002 - Darius Vassell

(And Peter Withe never played)

Great news for those players, although i think Heskey and Warnock can count themselves lucky! Im looking forward to supporting them and England in the World Cup. Only people that made it who i think shouldn't have was Carrick (coz he has been awful) and Upson for the same reason!

Swap Upson for Dawson, and SWP for Adam Johnson. Everything else i'm happy with. Warnock was the right choice, and despite Bent's goal tally, I think Heskey was the right choice aswell, but i'm not a fan of Heskey either.

Oh and that bit at the end is just awful! It won't be long until half of the Villa team makes up the England team, with some of the talent we've got coming through. I think Ashley Young should consider himself unlucky this time round, especially now that SWP is in the final 23, despite his bad season he's still been better than SWP!

That's right JayVFC, but thats what makes the stat more shocking, look at the squads from the 50s, littered with Wolves and West Brom players, probably before tomorrow they had both had more than us in an England World Cup squad!!! Was 5, now 8. Yet another reason to be proud of our current team at Villa. Great experience for Warnock even if he doesn't play, really happy for the lad.

So how on earth have we only ever had 5 players go to World Cups before!?!? Shocking!
