How Villa LOST The European Cup

Just been listening to the radio while I was having my lunch and heard this story. I didn't have a clue that this had happened.

Seemingly Colin Gibson and Sid Cowan's took the European Cup to a function at the Fox pub at Hopwood near Tamworth. During the course of the evening they had sunk a few beers and got involved in a competitive game of darts. One of them had upset a guy earlier in the evening and to get his own back he lifted the cup and scarpered.

He then drove to Sheffield (why nobody knows) and went to a police station where he told them that he had the European Cup in his car. Thinking they had a nutter on their hands they told him to bring it in. Which he did.

The police phoned up the West Midlands police only to be told go away we have a major incident on our hands. They phoned back and suggested that they might have the solution to their major incident. There were a few moments of silence and they said that they would come and get it.

In the meantime the overnight staff at the Sheffield police station decided to get a game of football going in the back yard to play for the European Cup. Apparently the station is being demolished and the photo's of the winning team have just been discovered. The story was kept quiet until now.

They interviewed Colin Gibson who admits it all and says that he has never felt so sick in his life! So who knew?

So that's two cups we've had stolen more times than Blues have won.

I remember it well. As you can imagine it caused a hell of a stir at the time. Remember Pickles the dog too Tony Rocky Horror. He found the Jules Rimet trophy (World Cup) in a hedgerow while out for a walk with his owner. Strange one that. It just never added up. There was more to that story than the public were ever made aware of. Only AVFC could have both the F.A. Cup and the European Champions Cup stolen. Fortunately the latter was recovered promptly, stopping it from becoming an even bigger story.
