MON Never Wanted Zigic

Just to set the record straight about Nikola Zigic.

Reports, the players agent and seemingly a lot of noses are saying that Villa made a last minute attempt to sign Zigic before he signed for Birmingham but we couldn't get our man because .... (wait for it) .... Martin O'Neill was on holiday???? (See: www.astonvilla.vitalfootball.co.uk/article)

How do we know this is rubbish?

Well look at Martin O'Neill's comments on Zigic from 22nd July 2008 after we had been linked with Zigic for about 12 months.

'There's not a grain of truth in the story that we've put in an offer for the player and I don't know where it is coming from,' O'Neill told the club's official website. 'I don't even know who the player's agent is. 'I wouldn't normally comment but there have been so many stories claiming this as fact and people have been quoted. 'They're completely wide of the mark. So I felt I had to put the record straight.'

Does this sound like a player MON wanted to sign?

No!

Even if it were a true story from his agent then it sums up what MON thinks of the player; he wouldn't come home from his Holiday a few days earlier to sign a player he apparently was desperate to sign.

(Apparently he was begging Zigic too!)

So clearly any claims that we were after Zigic is false, he is an average player joining an average club. If anything Birmingham actually did us Villa fans a favour because we now know there will be no more annoying 'Zigic to sign for Aston Villa' articles just like there has been for the past 2 years.

Good!
I am a Villan
Valencia have been trying to pawn Vidic off on an English club for two years now, and have finally succeeded. I hope he scores as many goals (3) as the great Chucho the clown!!!!

Doesn't take much to get the negative comments going again does it? Blues are spending more than us - yes they have spent 12m or so - and are probably weaker than they were last year! Foster for Hart anyone? Zigic anyone? Stephen Fletcher (Burnley to Wolves may end up being the better deal) but none of this lot would take us any further forward would they? So why the negativity? Sway other players to sign? Why exactly? Will Ronaldo and others go to Blues as Zigic and Foster have signed? Don't think so. Others may sign, yes, but at that level of quality, why do we care?

Had it confirmed as 100% junk, no contact, they don't want the player, MON has a phone and if they wanted someone there are enough people at the club to do the business side of things anyway. So all in all, totally not true.

I'm sorry guys i cant imagine MON begging!! End Of.

Nicola Zigic FAQ Games 22 Goals 6 Assists 1 Towering at 6' 8'' inches, Zigic's main claim to fame is that he is said to be the tallest player playing professional football anywhere in the world. An imposing figure, he got his break like so many players from Yugoslavia and, subsequently, Serbia, with Red Star Belgrade. He had played for a number of minor teams before signing for Red Star in 2003. Zigic had a superb goalscoring return for Red Star, bagging 47 goals in just 79 league starts which attracted interest from Europe's bigger clubs. He was signed by La Liga outfit Racing Santander in the summer of 2006 and enjoyed a successful first season in netting 11 goals. That led to a major move to Valencia, with Los Che splashing out £20 million. The move to Valencia turned out to be a disaster, and after 18 months - during which he was consistently linked with a move away - and just one goal he returned to Santander on loan for the second half of 2008-09. He's left Valencia to keep alive his hopes of featuring prominently in South Africa.
