James Milner Not Sure On Villa Future

Just mopping up the days news which basically all about James Milner.

I'd be shocked after listening to his press conference as broadcast on SSN if he didn't go this summer sadly.

Thing is, Villa have to get every penny they can for him, we've already showed we won't be bullied (over Gareth Barry ) but if someone is willing to pay 'silly money' then every player has a price.

£30m for him? + Sale of fringe players + some tv money and cup run money. Could be a big pot to re-build?

Gulp.

Milner said:

'Do I expect to be at Villa next season? I don't know. I've worked as hard as I can and concentrated on club football while the season has been on. Now it has finished, I'm focusing on England - and that's the only thing I am focusing on.'

Adding, 'The speculation about my own future is not distracting. There are always going to be rumours about every player in every club when the transfer window opens. To be linked with any clubs is flattering but I'm just concentrating on England at this time. The season finished at Villa a week and a bit ago and we all said we would discuss my future after the World Cup.'

Would have hoped for a 'I hope so' at the end of the 'do I expect to be at Villa next season?' rather than a 'I don't know'.

Seems he's off to me. I could be wrong!

Worst news - wanted to hear him say he was happy here and ready to sign! Ah well, onwards and upwards - push for £25m plus Ireland (if City) or Anderson (if United). Try and let him go to Man Utd with a replacement. Anderson not good enough maybe BUT would you trust O'Neill with that money to spend it on a few foreign flair players???
deano.avfc
It's inevitable that he is gonna go, wait till after the world cup, as his value can only increase, if it's man city then a player cash deal would work for me, santa cruz, bellamy, ireland, richards, swp any of them would be good for us and improve us.
roehe
The more I read his words, the more it dawns on me that he's off. *grits teeth* Bye.
Nel-A
Anderson, thats a good shout, very good underatted player imho, lets just hope he ain't like the Djemba twins !!!!!!!!!!!!
roehe
well Jp if thats his responce then there's not much we can do, if we don't get a cap on wages there's going to be no end on players chasing that pot of gold, and football will be worse for it, I can see no end to this madness unless we're all owned by some sheik, that way the wages will be the same at every club, and people will move on for all the right reasons instead of cash,if more players behaved like Matt Le Tissier football would be better for it, i know it wont happen, still we can dream, anyway if he whats out, get rid,
eltoro
He is a good player and i would not like to see him go. If the price is right though and we can use the money to improve then let him go. I am not sure how much further he can improve. He may become the next Gerard/Lampard but then again he may become the next Carrick. He has not shown any ‘greatness’ which he may do in a better team, it is a gamble and I trust MON/ Lerner to improve the team whatever happens
moocher
Not Santa Cruz - useless - only scored more than five in one season twice! Much much worse return than even Heskey.
deano.avfc
Read about this.. pretty sad if he did go to Citeh.

If he goes, he goes, we all know theres NO loyal AT ALL in football these days, kaka pretended he was at AC Milan, but that lasted 6 months, barry we all thought like milner now, would stay at villa rather than go man city...and it looks like he may go man city, fairplay if he goes United, or someone in the top 3, but anyone else and I'll be happy to boo him twice as bad as barry...Since we've made Milners career, with the loan period, and now putting him in the middle...
AvdomFc
what an ungrateful young man he seems!
merlin
What a *****er - we are in danger in becoming a feeder club for the top four! If he does go I hope it's to Utd but hope they get into a bidding war if nothing else as a statement of intent to who is the biggest club in Manchester. Out of interest does anyone know if City are putting any money into their academy or is their policy to plunder others development of players?
stanleeds
only sleggin, feck off, your not needed
eltoro
Get real. Of course we are a feeder club. The only way not to be is too be at the top of the food chain. In terms of trophies and playing it is Barcelona. In terms of money it is Man City. Valencia lose David Villa and in all probability we lose Milner. What we need is for AV too hold out and get the best price, At the end of the day we will get more than Valencia. I for one know who is getting the better player, they play in Spain;-)

I can only assume (possibly wrongly) that Milner has ben sounded out prior to a bid being put in by City. The unrest of MON about having to sell a star a few weeks back, and the ambition of the club etc etc etc. Young James has not really come out and said I am really happy at Villa, I have come on leaps and bounds, manager has utmost faith in me, won my england caps since I moved etc etc etc. I would expect him to go, the onus now is to get the best deal for Aston Villa, might I suggest Ireland(CM) and Onuha (RB/CB) plus £15m,,or of course Joe Hart and Ireland + £5m
fatloser
All you can hope for is that he's the next Gareth Barry; Great for you, decidedly average for City. I personally hope if he goes that he goes to United rather than City so they leave Modric alone! It's frustrating as feck when the big boys come in for players when you're a club trying to progress. We got torn apart by Liverpool and United. Wish they'd all feck off.
bernio3000
What if MON took the 30m and bought the equivalent of Downing, Heskey, Sidwell, Harwood and NRC (cost around 30m I believe)? That would be five average-to-poor players who would just warm the bench each week. We would be much worse off than just keeping Milner. Saying that, hearing his comment today convinces me he will be gone after the WC.
Surfer Dude
See what the world cup puts on Milners price. A good tournament and the offer might be too much for MoN, I hope not! Any way 'Dead Souls' your Darwinist view of football does not necessarily apply to Villa as I believe MoN really thinks we should be in the top four and will resist any challenges that will damage his attempts to do.
stanleeds
I would really be gutted if he went to City as I really taught the guy had ambition. Now as people are saying if he went to one of the top 3 you could understand but not City.
funnyclub
See ya Jimmy. Don't choose Citeh...
olofthegreat
I actually think Stephen Ireland is a better centre mid than Milner, but obviously Milner is far more versitile and has a great attitude as opposed to Ireland who is a complete nutcase. People are saying 20m plus Milner if that happens i'd be absolutly over the moon, but i'd say it would be more like milner + 5m or 10M at the most and only because Man City are mad.
liamo1981
Way to thank those who've supported you Jimmy. You're in the World Cup squad for one reason and one reason only...ungrateful feckin *****.
los_angeles_villan
The problem for me is that James seemed to be the only one that contributed a reasonable amount (or more than reasonable) of goals from his position this year. Ashley and Stewart didn't really contribute, and our strikers were so-so at best, especially in the big games. That said, for 30 million or 20 million and a decent replacement like ireland, take the money and put it into a striker or more creative midfielders.
ChapelHillVillan
Aston villa have told Milner to go and focus on the world cup and any discussions will happen afterwards. Man City have put in a bid for an important England player three weeks before the tournament starts which happens once every four years. I had a word with Fabio about this and he is absolutely delighted that Man City have put this bid in. He told me that there is no better preparation for the world cup than having your players up all night nattering with their agents. In fact he told me that he was hoping that Man City would put in a bid for the entire England squad. He said "If only I could have bidding wars going on for all my players, particularily in the group stages, the World Cup is as good as won. Indeed I have personally invited Sheikh Mansour to come to the hotel and wave his chequebook around during morning five a sides. If that happens we won't even need to go to South Africa. We'll just win it from here."
Hifriedelity
**by suggesting they buy our players it makes us look like ass kissers.
Pablo1978
It's amusing thinking back to when we signed Milner and the anti MON brigade were all up in arms about the price. I've even seen people being critical of MON this season for paying £12m for Milner. Young, English players will always command a premium, even more so with the 'home grown' rules. MON has built a very good team from a very low base. He's had a reasonable net spend in his time here but if you look at the value of some of the key players in the squad, it just shows what a good job he's done. If Milner goes for megabucks we need to look beyond the 'feeder club' and 'lack of ambition' tags that will be weilded by morons and see this in the perspective of the successful ongoing development of this club. UTV!
RoyalVilla
Interesting listening to Shearer's comments on sky advising Milner to stay at the Villa.
AVbornandbred
it's a sort of win win situation, if he goes for 30 million plus, then that is great money... if he stays, then great, he carries on developing at Villa
krisvilla
Central midfield seems to be the spot where we will be most in flux this summer. Does anyone still think Stan ought to be starting in the midfield? I know he's a leader but his legs just don't seem to be there anymore for him.
ChapelHillVillan
"Why do so many people think that a move to Chelsea would be a good thing yet a move to Man city is bad? Man City is no different to Chelsea when Abramovich took over." They are slightly different...as one person has alluded to, Chelsea were already playing Champions League Football. On top of that over the Premier League years, since from when Gullit had taken over as manager at least, they had won trophies...FA Cups, League Cups, Cup Winners Cups, Man City have won nothing since before I was born.
