An Apology To Richard Dunne!

An Apology To Richard Dunne!

Loved this post in the forum today by StuLinney, so thought I'd front page:

When Richard Dunne was 1st linked to Villa back in August, I was fuming.

'I don't want him, if he's not good enough for City, why should he bee good enough for us.'

Poor discipline, worst in Premier League history for red cards in fact, own goals galore and a disruptive personality based on his antics from over a decade ago while at Everton. And then there was the saga that followed between him & City over payments owed.

Then the deadline passed and I was hoping it would fall through. I was gutted when it got confirmed and he was lifting up the number 5 shirt.

Anyway, without much intention of cutting him much slack, the guy put in good performance after good performance (& chipping in with vital goals) but with my only comments being

'Well he should be putting in them performances after messing us about with the transfer.' There was the handball at Ewood I pointed out, this was going to be the start of the 'Real Dick Dunne' in a Villa shirt, I thought.

How wrong was I?

Great performance after great performance, even while carrying an injury for God knows how long.

The guy has definitely won me over.

So I hold my hand up, I was wrong. My apologies to Richard Dunne for ever doubting the guys ability & character. My shout for captain next season.

On a side note, before the last game of the season I said to a mate, 'You know, I think this could be the 1st Premier League season Richard Dunne has never scored an own goal.' To which he replied 'There's still 90min left yet!'

It ended up, there was only about 5mins left.

(Above is not to be used to discredit the future points or opinions of Vital Villa member StuLinney!!!!)

You weren't the only 'Doubting Thomas' StuLinney, I hold my hands up too. I was dead against us signing him, thought it no more than a panic buy because other targets had fallen through, and believed him to be a complete and utter waste of money. The guy certainly shut my big fat mouth up in a hurry. An inspirational signing, and at the price we paid, an absolute steal of a bargain.

I remember us watching Richards from City and Upson from West Ham. We ended up with Dunne and Collins. I was gutted!! So wrong now!! HOWEVER - Curtis Davies still CAN do a job for us!!!

Well said, StuLinney - takes a man to admit a mistake. (Ow! Or Woman - wife looking over shoulder).

As a fan of Dunnie's I was extremely upset when he was forced out at City and even now would welcome him back with open arms. The man is a legend and should be playing for Manchester City!! Sorry Villans. If it were left to me we would do a swap now, Dunnie back to City and Richards you can have.... actually I personally would pay you to take Richards!!
Dunnie for ever
