Randy's World Cup Disappointment

Randy's World Cup Disappointment

Randy Lerner has admitted he is slightly disappointed that only 3 Villans made it into Fabio's 30 man squad for the World Cup.

As we know Milner, Heskey and Warnock all have chances to stake their claim for the full squad, although you would fully expect Milner and Heskey to already be shoe ins, but Randy believes that Young, and Gabby can feel disappointment wih the fact that they aren't in with the same shot.

Lerner made his thoughts known whilst speaking to the Sunday Mercury:

'I felt Ashley and Gabby should have been in. I don't get it.'

Adding that both players have proven over the past few seasons that they can contribute at Villa, and with Ash's trickery he's capable of 'changing a game in 20 seconds'.

There's an obvious merit in Lerner's thoughts, Gabby has improved over the past two seasons especially and Ash can clearly change a game when he's firing on all cylinders but neither player stood out when given the chance by Fabio in the way say Milner did. Both players also have consistency issues that have been done to death on the forum.

There's no doubt both are capable of playing a part in the England team, but with the claret and blue specs off there are better choices at the moment and I doubt many of us are surprised they aren't there.

out of 50 crosses, 40 of them will end up in the holte. not for a moment saying he is *****, but suggesting exactly why the England manager hasnt picked him - consistency.

Glad that you two guys agree with me (Callum_ws and reza), I thought that I might be in the minority. Yes, he's definitely done considerably more this season than has Wright-Phillips and Joe Cole, in fact neither of those two players are regulars in their club sides. Ash would figure more prominently if we had a couple of strikers ready and willing to get in there on the end of his crosses. Admittedly sometimes his balls into the box are wayward, but he does swing some gems in there which sadly no striker seems prepared to get on the end of. England's loss I feel, but at least it will ensure that Ash is fresh and raring to go come the big kick-off in August.

He`s right - Gabby is better than Heskey and Ash is better than Johnson and others, they should have been in the 30.
