Hold Your Heads In Shame Man City Official Site

Hold your heads in shame Manchester City.

The headline that comes up for their official site on newsnow etc reads:

Milner On The Wish List?

Now that being on an official site - despite the fact when you click the headline (made to grab attention) it is a report on their site talking about press speculation - is bang out of order.

We've already had the Gareth Barry saga with that lot, now the richest club in the world, who obviously think they can run rough shot over anyone, are starting with another of our players.

They should know better, they should show some more class than that. Tapping up players happens in all sorts of ways and sorry, that is just plain wrong.

I won't link to their article, not giving them what they want, page impressions and attention. If that was an unofficial site there would be no problem but there is an unwritten code of conduct with official sites because if they have a headline like that, it goes without saying it looks like the official line.

Not really sure what the issue is here. If Chelsea for example, put the same thing about Tevez on their website I wouldn't take offense. It will tie in to the part of the site which deals in press speculation- its not the club making any kind of official statement. Relax :)

I understand your sensitivities but the item is found under our section 'What the papers say' - the fact that you got there through 'newsnow' - which is how I found your article - is not the fault of the City website. In fact the 'What the papers say' section on the City site, surprisingly includes a lot of the often negative comments about us in the press - not to mention the 9,999 players we are apparently linked with every week.

We will keep Milner - regardless of the World Cup performances. However, I fully expect Ash Young to be on his way. If it gets near 25m I would happily sell him. That (as well as the squad sales everyone knows about) would be enough to buy a few other top players. In an ideal World I would sell Young to a 'big' club and take a player or two in exchange as well as cash.

Go easy fellas. Its a review of what the papers say. Its the one part of our website that offers a balanced view of what the hacks are saying. It doesn't influence anyone and is just a review of what hacks are saying about us in the press - which is often a load of rubbish. Blame the journo but I for one don't feel any shame for that. You're being over-sensitive.

And Villan44 - you just sound ridiculously bitter. City fans have always been vocal on the internet. The section we post on most is the MEN website and traffic there was just as high when we had Stuart Pearce.

Sadly this is the current situation, when we come to town we can pretty much carry off whoever we want. Not something I'd necessarilly have chosen but what can you do. If it's any consolation I hope we don't sign Milner because i believe we should be setting our sights higher. Great player for Villa, not sure where he'd fit in with us and it would probably only be a matter of months before we signed someone better and he was sent out on loan. Just like Jo, Robinho, Benjani, Caicedo and any other player we have whose name ends in a vowel. Oh and Bojinov whose name doesn't.

If - as it is once you get there - it is to do wtih press links then they have a duty of responsibility to call it 'Monday Media' or 'Press Talk' etc, not have an attention grabbing headline talking about another clubs player. As in my article, I made it clear what it led to but they know exactly what they are doing, if they don't then they are being run by amateurs (the official site that is) as our official site and others don't do headlines like that. Totally off to do it. So if you had taken time to read the article you'd have seen what the point was. If we did that 'Tevez wanted at Villa' it wouldn't be deemed so suitable by you folks I'm sure.

Not surprised that Citeh would be interested in Milner as part of their quest to buy the Premier League title. Of course there's nothing to say that there is any foundation to the rumour and I'm not sure he's the player they are looking for.

Have any Villa fans actually taken the time to read the article (just google before seeking to condemn us? I'm certain that if anyone does acrtually visit the site and have a read they'll realise this is all a storm in a teacup. And for what it's worth, Milner is a very good footballer, but I can't see why we'd be in for him as we already have several similar players. Don'tt believe the hype!

fifthcolumn, the article is irrelevant, the point is the headline but then again had you read this one that would point be crystal clear. The irony is lost on some of you isn't it. But then again for Fraser who seems oblivious to the fact that Villa's OS story on Beckford is actually titled MEDIA WATCH and not Beckford on Wish List.

Don't let the facts or details get in the way of your blind loyalty to your owners play thing.

So still missing the point and ignoring the fact the Villa's Beckford story is titled MEDIA WATCH and doesn't actually mention Beckford in the title? Oh and yes congratulations, I was so looking forward to you storming the league and gaining your rightful place in the Champs League - I really did think there'd be more than just 3 points between us.

As many of you have stated this is just a thread on the OS under 'What the Papers Say' - the week before we had a headline saying 'Gerrard on City's Wish List' - both headlines ending with a ?.

and both shouldn't be there Thaibluefan. It is a lack of class. Not what I'd expect from a big club. It is small time, amateur and out of order. As above and as I say in the article, yes, it leads to paper talk but a headline that comes through on google news, newsnow etc FROM an official site LOOKS official. They need a title like 'what the papers say' 'rumour round up' etc NOT naming another teams players. I repeat, THIS IS AN OFFICIAL SITE. They are obviously amateurs running it.

Well then fifthcolumn your OS would surely know the difference between a main headline and the sub then wouldn't they. The point still remains it should be Milner/Gerrard or anyone else on the wishlist - What The Papers Say. It should be What The Papers Say - Milner/Spock/Touchy Man City fans on the wishlist.

Here endeth the lesson...of course unless it is just a sensationalised tabloid trick to gain extra views from fans of other clubs that wouldn't ordinarily visit. Which sort of loops you back to OS's are supposed to be above that kind of thing.

YJ - it's an ecumenical matter, sadly ethics don't seem to apply to the world of journalism anymore when there's money to be made. See any number of sites or papers with their exclusives, misleading headlines, and general BS just to fill inches.

Right the following are the headlines on mcfc for there "what the papers say" page. "Barry dream in Balance" "Milner on wish list?" "Kop swap tops pops" "Bellamy back in favour" "Pat exits stage left, not happy" "Kolo makes his point" "Heads and tales from Roberto" "Gerrard on the city wish list?" "When Harry met Craig" "Talk of Tevez the top story" "Papers accept Roberto is staying" Etc Etc As you can see they are just headlines from various papers stating some stories you slag MCFC for having the headline that was written by another journalist as the title for the page and then you create an over the top biased uninformed article with the attenton grabbing title "Manchester City hold your head in shame" You sure you dont work for the press?

Cheers, nice to be thought of as an impartial and non sensational official site - oh but then we aren't. Then again the article here is more informed than the headline is question but again that's passed you by.
