So, just as I thought, the MON haters are very much a SMALL MINORITY. It's a shame they seem to have so much shout on so many Villa sites, including this one sadly :-(

Badger be novel, comment on the club not other fans. You are failing to see the irony aren't you.

"Since when has wanting your club to stop making basic errors so we achieve more meant you don't really support the club. By the same token for those who only criticise fellow fans instead of discussing the club, how can they consider themselves better fans.".... Mike this is a cop-out imo. You talk of "basic errors", as do the rest of the MON haters. I'm totally sick of hearing about how Cuellar is crap as a RB for example, but even a Spurs fan can see that he's been excellent defensively (which is why MON plays him there), where we can't.... We didn't fade this time in the same way, so how about giving a bit of credit there?... I'll happily concede any criticism of Heskey though, he's just pants for us, simple...... Don't get me wrong, I'll slate when we're not doing as well as we should be. It's just that unless we get some arabs in to spend the sort of money Citeh are (which I don't want), I think we're not far off doing as well as we're ultimately capable, the way the game is now.....and I would prefer that Villa (and football fans in general) aim the malice at the people causing the problem and not the manager..IE the idiots that have turned the game into a business.....Unfortunately, while fans continue to pay a substantial % of their wages for an hour and a half, I'm probably in a minority.

lol Badger, no problems with the odd tangent, been a good chat I think. Least it's probably the first Monny chat I've actually enjoyed in a few months.

"I don't recall a Villa manager causing such a split amongst the fans"....I should correct this..... Never has there been such an an easy way to present your views, than the internet. It makes it very easy for dissenters to have their say (fair enough) but the poll tells the real story, I hope.

I do think we've hit our limit under Monny, because I can't see 'the problems' being rectified this season when they've been around in previous seasons and not sorted. Stupid thing is though 2-3 more victories (5 definitely) would change everything other than my gripe at entertaining football. I do think it's that close Top 4 wise and we can all pick out games we lost we should've got a point in and more importantly the draws we most definitely should have won.

I suppose that's where my frustration comes from in that we could've done better over the last 2 seasons but held ourselves back, yet Monny's first 18 months we were a delight to watch even when results didn't go our way. Now we have the middle ground where I don't think we play for the majority of the time great football anymore, yet we do draw games in previous years we'd have lost. It's the wrong mix of the two really because our focus is not lose, rather than win at all costs.

So with the problems I think we've moved as far forward as we can expect to, unless Monny is prepared to be less stubborn and take a risk. Yes it might not work, but it can't be anyworse than Heskey on 73 minutes every single time he doesn't start. Which in itself ie Heskey wouldn't be a bad thing IF we had a striker who could play off him or tactics that allowed midfielders to play off him like England do. Big Ead said you pick the tactics to suit your team, we seem to try and pick the team to suit 442 regardless. I think amongst our whole squad we could easily do 3 different types of play. Our problem is the first team regulars suit 451/433 depending on whether we attack or defend, but that isn't what we lead with. Anyway rambling now.

Doesn't mean that I don't see the progress we have made, nor that I don't hope it does click this season.

Maybe the difference also comes from (me at least can't speak for others) I've been living online since 2001 and running sites since then so the split on Monny isn't that unknown, especially online for me but I do think this is probably as polarised as it has ever been, albeit not by much lol. I remember the JG, GT, DOL stuff which was just as bad but I don't remember fans turning on each other the way there's the tendency to do now. That could just be nostalgia though PMSL

The Poll is a good way to judge the feeling among the masses, not the few. The people who don't have a soap box to stand on have spoken.... 89% in favour too. The title only indicates that it's 80%

80% 'great' villan444, but yes, see what you say. Not sure those who criticise have a soap box mate ALSO not sure that all those who voted 'great' don't have legitimate queries/frustrations, just shows that no matter what opinions we as individual fans hold, not that many are dead set against him or asking him to be sacked/moved on. Kind of illustrates what I've tried to say through the season, you can question a tactic, a player use or non use/ a particular game without being an anti or negi ... All good, he's earnt a 5th season, lets hope it is a cracker, that is what we all want isn't it?

Not particularly bothered by it Bob, it has been said, but I do realise I'll be tagged as one of the ultra negi's regardless because of my rants on the frontpage at points when I'm still angry after games. So as well as trying to calm the digs that go on in comments and the forum so we get back back to debate and chat properly, I'm also trying to give a bit balance from me as I know I don't generally do that post match lol

Appreciate your comments though chap and I'll make a mental note to have you agree with me more next season - that said if it clicks properly in pre season and we take that into the league overall I'd have very few gripes left and not only would I be happier that way, I'm sure you and others would be aswell lol

Collins was a surprising one and fans will always judge new signings before they've played based on what they remember of them from the previous club, I agree maybe some comments were influenced by a dislike of the manager 'choosing' the wrong quality but again I've seen the same reactions to other players not Monny related. With Dunne I think a lot of people were led by the fact Monny had already said he wasn't wanted, then 4 weeks later he was talking like we'd been after him all season. I can't remember many negative comments about him directly though, more remember God comparisons when he signed because of the Eire link etc

Oh and ps

Milner or Collins for me. Think Collins has probably stood above Dunne just slightly as the season ran to a close.
