Three Villans in Capello's 30 Man Squad

Fabio Capello has named his 30-man provisional squad as he prepares for the World Cup in South Africa.

Three Villa stars have been named, Emile Heskey and James Milner both being called up as expected and Stephen Warnock is possibly a surprise inclusion.

Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young both missed out though despite having decent seasons.

The Squad:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Man City), David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Man City), Michael Carrick (Man Utd), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham), Adam Johnson (Man City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), James Milner (Aston Villa), Scott Parker (West Ham), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Man City).

Forwards: Darren Bent (Sunderlan), Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd).

Heskey is abysmal. Agbonlahor should be there. But somehow Heskey just always makes the England squad despite being rubbish.

Surprised Ashley Young is not included.Miles better than Wright-Phillips in my opinion

have heared rooney say he likes heskey as his support which is why i think he will go. Would not be surprised to see swp arrive here with young going with a fatprofit in the window. Would be good business and a very good replacement

You have Huddlestone, Carrick, Gerrard, Lampard, Milner for the Centre places i really don't see the need for Barry (injured) and Parker, then there's SWP, Johnson can also play in the centre too, Young, Downing, Agbonlahor should be in the squad as well, Agbonlahor is much better than Heskey and is very key at holding the ball up and hes desire is much bigger. Being in the world cup too will only improve him for the future, But apart from that it looks quite a strong squad.

Congratulations and "Good Luck' to the three Villans who have made Capello's initial thirty, that is an achievement in itself. Commiserations to the lads who were hoping for a call, a call that sadly never came. Its an interesting squad, a squad that overall I cant find too much wrong with, whether its strong enough to enable us to do well out in South Africa is another matter.

Cant believe that Capello has picke Heskey! Surely he wont get into the final 23. I cant imagine seeing Warnock in the final 23 either. But its good for him to get the squad call. Feel a bit sorry for Ashley, but I cant say I think its unfair. He has ranged between brilliant and very averrage this season. I hope that will put the Barca and Real Madrid links to bed!

If one more Villan deserved to be in there, it'd be Downing. I think Downing has run out of steam though due to lack of a pre season. I wouldn't have called up A. Young, I just don't think he's that great, and he's definitely never impressed at International level. Agbonlahor I would have taken for his sheer pace in the last 15 mins of a game to throw at a tired defense, however Walcott can always do that as well. Warnock is fortunate, but he will not make the plane.

Villa 4 Ever, the need for Barry is acute. He is a far superior player to Carrick, Huddlestone and Milner in the position he plays - though why you have to mention Milner I don't know. Milner is a good player, but he's not a holding midfield player! Lampard is clearly first choice to partner Barry, and Gerrard will be used on the left - in part because he is neither intelligent or disciplined enough to be trusted to partner Lampard. Hopefully Barry will be fit at least by the time of the knockout stages, if not before. But even if he was unavailable for the first three games he must still be taken because he plays a pivotal role in Cappello's side that no-one else could play anywhere near as effectively. England should qualify from the group as winners fairly comfortably, even without Barry, but when the quality of opposition increases, Barry will be vital. But I agree with you about Heskey.

**getting through 1 on 1 with the "keeper to beat" and missing!

Young isn't going because his delivery has been poor all season. Heskey is going because the National team have players like Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard who will exploit the space he creates by dropping deep. Admittedly it means we will then be relying on a good touch from him, which has a 50/50 chance of happening, but that's why. Capello knows what he is doing.

Whats the odds on Heskey winning the Golden Boot and scoring the winner in the final with his arse? Should have taken either Gabby or Ash for pace (last 15 mins when we need a goal) Warnock will be cut
