Which Striker Would You Like At Villa Next Season?

Robbie Keane will be available from Spurs, as will Spurs on-loan signing Gudjohnsen who will be looking to leave AS Monaco in the summer.

Would you fancy Carlton Cole to return to Villa Park after a decent season at West Ham?

Maybe Michael Owen floats your boat, given his lack of appearances for Man Utd, not sure how long he is injured for though.

Frederic Piquionne did a decent job at Pompey, would he do better with our team?

Kenwynne Jones is probably more realistic than Darren Bent, but would you like him at Villa Park?

Rangers' Kris Boyd was linked in January, would he do well south of the border?

Or is there someone else you have your eye on, let us know by commenting below.....

Probably like a player I know nothing about, if that makes sense! There are several in the Premiership who would improve us, but I can't think of one realistically that would be the answer. I believe we need a younger Robbie Keane or Teddy Sheringham type of player. We have power and pace up front but we don't have the 'clever' player who can drop short, have the ball to feet comfortably and pick a killer pass AND get into the box to score goals. Might need to come from someone I don't know abroad. IMO the best who MAY be available from the Priemership is Berbatov, but he doesn't work hard enough for MON. Couldn't we afford one luxury player in our set up?

I 'd go for Forlan, but would we get him??? Keane, Rodellega, Kalenic. One thing is for sure, we wont break the bank.

I think we should have a complete change and buy a striker who is a natural finisher, Falcao for me but obviously not going to happen, so Carroll instead and play The Fonz more, these two will be playing up front together for the Eng u21s for the next few years

Forlan please. Keane? No way thanks.

Falcano from porto together with robbie keane, we need a goalscorer and a link up man or as Merson would say a number 10.

Bent, number 1 target - we should have got him for £12 - Snderland will want £20m now!

We already needed one extra striker, we may lose two so we may need three. Who would I like? Torres, Tevez and Rooney! Realistically I can see us perhaps going for Keane/Cole/Doyle if Carew and Emule leave for average money. That wouldn't be so bad but we could possibly do better. Incidentally I touted Falcoa before he signed for Porto (on a different forum) - MON never listens to me.

I dont think any of the mentioned strikers, except Keane are good enough to make too much difference. I would like someone like Tevez or Craig Belamy. None of the strikers mentioned would get into the teams above us in the PL, so why should we be happy with one of them? Do we want to finish 6th again or lower next season? Then we have to be a bit more adventurous, maybe look for some African or South American striker.... but a real talent! I dont really know who to be honest, but there again I am not being paid to know, but MON and our scouts are.... earn your money and bring in someone who is going to take us forward!

Fed up of not having a quality striker, every top team has one (or three).....Time to pay up Mr Lerner, cant be bothered watching another season of strikers who need 7 shots to score.

I'd offload Carew & Heskey & go all out for both Andy Carroll & Kevin Doyle.

Repeat my comments of earlier....Berbatov....quite likely United will sell because he hasn't been a massive success there.

Owen last season I'd have gambled on, not now. I'd go for Forlan and Keane

Jesus Christ, "go all out for carroll and doyle". They cant be the ambitions of this football club surely? Two average strikers, worse than what we currently have. We have to keep Carew, Gabby and Fonz and just add one player of quality to the forward line. Who it will be is the hard bit.

I think our manager is fully aware of foreign signings, he ahs just chosen to recruit predominantly from britain as the players fully understand the premier league. Its this menatality that has made us a top 6 side and a tough side to beat. Im immensely proud of us signing young english players like young and milner and making them international players. But i also realise that now is the time to add that extra quality which can only come from abroad like spurs have done to make us a top 4 side. I just hope that the manager realises this

spotted Potato head Bruce in Birmingham airport at 5:30 am, i had just finished work and was popping into the Weatherspoons when i heard a funny Geordie accent, he was sitting with three people drinking coffee at Frankie and Bennys. Unfortantely neither Bent or Jones was part of that group

Sell Carew, Heskey, and bring in Bent even if it is 20m we need him, he scored 25 goals this season and he offers pace, strength, power, height and he is a good finisher, add to that i would like to see Gudjohnson to add something different as well, But Bent would be the big signing we need, We need a big big signing upfront, it is the only place we are struggling, Do you remember Newcastle used to always be up there even when they had one of the most shocking defense in the country ? They always coped well because they were scoring more than they were letting in, We aren't able to smash them in like we should, Delfouneso should get more games and Agbonlahor & Bent would be a match made in Heaven.

i think doyle in a good team will score lots of goals and would not be suprised to see him in an aston villa shirt next season, obviously bent would be great aswell but i cant see sunderland letting him go for what we can afford so maybe rodallega but cant really see it, looks like NRC, Sidders, salifou, bouma and maybe few others will be leaving so its gonna be a real interesting summer, cant wait!

Strike force would ideally be: Gabby, Carew, Bent, Bothroyd and Fonz. Heskey out, keep the rest. This would improve us as a team.

11/05/2010 18:24:00

Spend on Bent. He doesn't have amazing pace, isn't a good hold up player, doesn't run the channels but he does score goals a plenty. All we need. Saying that if we had someone like him then surely MON would change the tactics to allow him to score rather than helping out the midfield/defence or chasing dead end balls or flicking headers into nomans land????????

Edin Dzeko from Wolfsburg. Tall, good header (ref Man U), but also good with the ball at his feet. Could be tempted by the PL, given Wolfsburg failed to qualify for CL. Luca Toni? that Niang-fella from Marseilles? Or how about a cheeky bid for Ballotelli? Troublemaker, but with great potential!

What about Bobby Zamora? if Hodgson leaves Fulham then there will not be that loyalty to keep him there. I'd say he's the perfect foil for Gabby.

How many times must it be said. Keane is over aged, over paid and over the hill. But more important than that, he would absolutely kill our clubs real transfer ambitions. Buying this type of player tells every other player we are not making a concerted effort for the top four and trophies. He would cost around £10 million in transfer fee and £15m in wages and bonuses over the term of his contract. We wouldn't get a single penny back in return. We can not afford to take a £25m gamble on a player near the end of his career. Do all of the posters above who are advocating Keane seriously think that we couldn't find better value for £25m? And we wonder why clubs are in such serious financial trouble. This is real world . . . . not play station football. If we make that sort of mistake it has ramifications for the whole infrastructure of our club. I am not sure who would improve us. But I am sure we are not in a financial position to be wasting money on has beens like Keane. Personally I would rather take a punt on 3 lower league strikers for realistic money. Players that have the potential to grow and make the club both financially sound and succesful. David Platt, Darren Bent, Tim Cahill, Kevin Phillips, Ian Wright, Robbie Keane (when he was young and had potential), Dean Ashton, plus many others are examples of the type of players that can be picked up for relative peanuts, but who go on to be worth their weight in gold. You could have purchased all of these for the amount Robbie Keane would now cost us. The skill in football management is not waving a cheque book around (we can't compete that way) but buy spotting, nurturing and keeping the best talent.

I agree with voice.... i also think whoever we get MUST be a great header of the ball... it's how our squad is set-up. Nobody has mentioned trying to prize away Tim Cahill from Everton - great attacking midfielder who is awesome in the air...

Andy Carroll is neither especially young, nor especially good. Jay Bothroyd is none of these things and doesn't have Carrolls work rate. If we got Keane ata bargain price, that'd be fine, but he's in the twiglight of his career, the Villa would be his last chance at success in England. Rodellega might turn out to be a star, but I'm yet to be convinced. Kalanic is clearly desitined for bigger things than Blackburn and offers something like the complete package; pace, power, good movement, shooting, and all at a reasonable price. I'd liken him to be the next Bellamy. Talking of which, if he can't get over his problems at City, I'd love to see him in Claret and Blue, he'd offer the edge that we've been lacking for a few years. It'd be really interesting to see if the 6 man clearout is going to be so we can make way for exciting signing or if it's to shift people out of the way for the youngsters coming through?
