Weimann Rewarded With Squad Call Up

Weimann Rewarded With Squad Call Up

Andreas Weimann, our second string starlet, has been rewarded for his performances this season by being pulled into the first 18 for the Blackburn clash.

Speaking on the Official Site Martin O'Neill confirmed that Weimann had been called into the first 18 for the first time in real terms due to his performances both through out the season (he finished as the league's leading scorer with 9), and in the reserve Play Off final.

Weimann isn't exactly a stranger to the first team, having tasted some pre season action in the Peace Cup and finding the net in our Peterborough friendly.

'I have brought young Andy into the squad. He was splendid for us up at Old Trafford and I would be hoping that this time next year he would have made his mark.'

O'Neill also adds he would hope Delfouneso will achieve the same next season by adding:

'The two of them pre season with a bit of luck will figure.'

Ahead of Blackburn O'Neill also rubbishes talk that he will play the fringe players and youngsters to give them a taste, insisting:

'We will go full strength in the game, it's important for us to win.'

He possibly does PiperUK, but I dont agree with your 'about time' comment. He's talented, no doubt about it, and he has the ability, but he still has a lot of work ahead of him before he can be considered for regular duty with the first team squad. He's certainly come a long way since I first saw him playing at Bodymoor Heath with the young lads, he's progressed and developed nicely, so certainly this call-up wont do him any harm at all, and will give him the opportunity to experience the first team match day atmosphere at Villa Park.

It would be good to see something different .. instead of Heskey for Carew in the 70th min (boring) bring on the Wee Man and Fonz for Gabby and Carew .

I say... Heskey... bring him on and ask him to play for Blackburn in disguise - they'll never score!! :D
