The Difference Between 6th & 7th For Villa

Just for those wondering why it might matter where Villa finish (apart from the financial gain per additional place) now that 4th is out:

If we finish 7th (we lose/draw and Liverpool win) Villa would have to enter the Europa League at the third qualifying stage, played in two legs weeks of July 27 and Aug 3 giving players very little rest, especially those coming back from the World Cup.

Finishing 6th however would mean we are straight in the competition for the play off rounds, matches played weeks of Aug 18 and Aug 25
The Premier League`s seventh-placed team must enter the Europa League at the third qualifying stage with the two legs in the weeks of July 27 and August 3.

The Premier League begins August 15th.

James Milner says on the official site :

'If the lads are going to get an extra couple of weeks off by getting a win it's obviously a nice incentive. You're not going to try any harder because you give 100 per cent anyway but it's been a long season for all of us and the rest is very much needed.'

Naturally we can still finish 5th, we need West Ham to beat Manchester City and for us to do the business against Blackburn Rovers.

Probably means at least another £500k in the bank too which is always welcome...

Europa league has some pretty good teams, shame the prize and TV money doesnt match it. Im in 2 minds wheter we should even bother with it. The extra 18 games to get to the final along with decent domestic cup runs will ruin us (again)

It's made Fulham's season, and I hope they win it, and if they do, they wont give a s**t how many games they have played, they'll have one more cup than us, or Liverpool or Citeh, or Arsenal.......and good luck to them. That away goal against a poor Rapid Vienna team was down to us still being in pre season mode, followed by a hangover that cost us 3 pts v Wigan. If finishing 6th meand that pre season is normal, then we must win on Sunday.

We have to finish 5th or 6th .. It would be an absolute waste of time to play qualifying games for a tournament that Martin will probably cast aside later (or sooner) in the season .. but if we did take it seriously seeing Villa an extra 18 times in a season and having a run like Fulham would be my idea of Nirvana

It's only amazing for Fulham gents because they've not got any history in Europe. Sure a final would be nice and a couple of away trips to fine European stadia but at what cost. MON needs to learn to rotate first.
