Villa Boss O'Neill Has Desire To Try Again...

Well for all the reports linking our manager to other jobs and for all the rumours that Martin O'Neill is off in the summer, his quotes in The Daily Mail seem to suggest otherwise.

Following the loss yesterday which puts us out of contention for the coveted 4th spot, MON said you have to have the 'desire to come back again, that is the great thing about sport'.

Adding, 'So we have to try and go again. Obviously, we will have to get stronger which is easier said than done, but that is what we need.'

And on the summer he says: 'The chairman is coming over for the last game. I will sit down with him and discuss all aspects. But in the last conversation I had with him, he was immensely proud of the team.'

He does however suggest that the managers job is a killer one and warns players to forget about it if they can!!! 'If they have good careers and don't need to be managers, then they shouldn't do it!'

So there you go, one more game and we are done for the season. Be interesting to see what Randy Lerner and MON decide, from those quotes it looks like MON is wanting to stay around, so the next question will be transfer targets and what budget the club can sensibly afford to try again next season. We all know a playmaker and most importantly a strike or two are desperately needed, but where from and how much? So glad I don't have to answer either question! All I have to do is renew my season ticket (job done) and type opinions. Easy! lol

right, so reading between the lines.....! :o)

Ironically enough, Martin O'Neill could be the perfect manager for us in a couple of years time. If there's one thing he can do, it's getting decent results with average teams. Once there is no money left, and once the few players of genuine quality we possess have gone, then we will be happy finishing in the top half. All he needs is time, and as far as I can gather, Lerner is more than happy to give him it.

Oh sorry Glensider, I was still in your logins and forgot to go back to JPFear, just so all know, Sir Glen didn't write this junk! :o)

I would suggest we have a little clear out.... Beye, Shorey, Sidwell, Reo-Coker, Heskey, Harewood, Salifou, Osbourne. That's £15-20m.. I would then go buy Bent for £15-20m and a good Central Midfielder. Perhaps van der Vaart, Ireland, Defour. To take Villa to the next level is going to involve spending big money on few players. We now need real quality not quantity. personally if we get in 3-4 players for £50m I would be happy. For next season I would move forwards a few more youth players, Eric Lichaj, Barry Bannan, Marc Albrighton, Ciaran Clark, Andreas Weimann and hope to see more of the Fonz. And don't forget we have Davis back and hopefully Bouma. Lichaj would be an interesting sub with his Delap like throw ins.

Furthermore we should realize that next season players like Gabby, Ash, Milner, Fonz will be a year older and hopefully better. Plus Ash probably didn't have his best season. Downing still has a lot to prove and will most likely improve next season.

Need to get behind MON next Sunday. He has delivered year-on-year improvement even if at times his tactics are frustrating.

I would love to go for wrightphillips a more direct winger, bent proven goal scorer, Ireland creative midfielder, van der vaart class act, defour skillful midfielder. Goodbye to sidwell average, beye switch off, Heskey don't score, Harwood is he still there, Salifou Who?
