'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lawro Says Villa Loss & Then Insults Villa Fans!

Lawro has Manchester City beat Villa this weekend with a 2-1 prediction.

The BBC pundit says 'I'll go for City to edge this one - the only reason I'm hesitant is they have been a bit nervy in defence recently. They played for a point against Manchester United, when they lost to a last-minute goal, and definitely last week when they drew at Arsenal. They need to get back on the winning trail and they can put Villa out of the race for fourth place in this game, so it will be tight.'

And on Villa: 'Villa's Richard Dunne will be going back to his old club with a real feeling that he was cast aside earlier than necessary. The problem for Villa is that decisions change games, and that in turn can change a season - the decision not to send off Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic in the Carling Cup final was a massive one that went against them, and it shows how marginal things can be. Villa have got better year on year, which is all you can ask for, but their supporters think they have got a divine right to trophies, which is not the case - just ask Arsenal, who are a better team than Villa.'

Where the hell does this man get it in his de-mustached head that Villa fans think it is our divine right to win silverware? We've won nothing since f***ing 1996 for goodness sake, we still turn up in major numbers and then we get that thrown at us? Talk about throwing things, I notice Fulham have made the final of the Europa Cup, nice to see one English club and manager take the competition seriously. Just think, ..... no, I best not..... I could only say that if it was David O'Leary or another manager, silly me.

My interview on Vital Man City (still waiting for their answers to put up on Vital Villa) where I say they might well put the last nail in the coffin of the Premier League. Me being over dramatic? Surely not!?!? :o) VMC Eight Deadly Sins: Q&A With A Villain (sic)

Martin O'Neill says: 'We have to win the game. There is no doubt about that.' Adding 'We have two games, City have three and the only thing we were able to do by winning last week is confirm we will finish seventh in the league and have European football again. Anything else after that would be worth aiming for in the next couple of games.' Full preview by MON on the official site: www.avfc.co.uk

Lawro is more confident of a city win than most City fans are

We do have a divine right to trophies - just that other sodding clubs don't realise it

A liverpool fan complaining about supporters feeling they have a divine right to win things.Perhaps he's experimenting with irony? The guy is a t1t.

Strange comment!? I don't know any fans either who think we have some divine right to a trophy.... I think he may be getting confused with us not being happy with fitting into sky & the bbc's opinion that we should be happy being a "make up the numbers club". Or that we should just accept that the much better & bigger clubs like "LIVERPOOL" for example should not be messed with as they are simply so superior to our quaint little outfit!! We should know our place & be really overjoyed at mediocrity. Forget the proud history & list of achievements including the European Cup as we should'nt have won them being such an unworthy & over expectant lot. .... Flippin eck Lawro have a listen to yourself! Nobody in the Villa crowd EXPECTS silverware... i would simply say we are a passionate lot who won't let the club rest on it's laurels despite having to put up with 25 years of mediocrity under Ellis. If you ask me it's the Liverpool fans who expect silverware but then i guess thats acceptable is it? Talk about pots & Kettles!!

i'm going big here - 3-1 to us. we are going to play the way we know we can, it will all come together. every player rating will be a 10. (maybe not brad because he will have ***** all to do but pick the ball out of net when it hits scar face in balls and deflects in). Milner to run rings around Barry - ***** yeah - its on TV over here

I quite enjoy pundits comments, also love the Sunday Supplement on SKy with reporters talking football, but I do have to admit that was the daftest comment I've ever seen from Lawro, just can't see how anyone would think we think we have a divine right. The one thing as a Villa fan is I personally have always felt on our day we can compete with anyone. Never an arrogance, never an assumption, I am like most of us only too aware of our frailties but as we have proved again this year with results at Old Trafford + beating Chelsea etc, we can win. No divine right, needs luck (see final and semi final for lack of luck) and fight. That isn't the same as what Lawro is describing and I've not met any Villa fans who 'expect' just hope!
The Fear
most pundits go off general hearsay which they get from other pundits and sections of the media. i heard alan hansen say on motd a couple of weeks ago that "the villa fans gave gabby a torrid time last year." This was obviously taken from one isolated incident, but the press grab hold of it and turn it in to a story about 40,000 people booing gabby, some has been manager gets pulled in to comment on what a disgrace it was, SSN put it on their yellow banner cus **** all else is going on that day, which leaves alan hansen with the only option of not bothering to do any research but instead pass his ill informed crap on. he wasnt at the game and if he was he wouldnt have heard one boo, just ironic cheers for various reasons. Why let the truth get in the way off a good story though?!

Lawro has always been a smug, condecending p***k as far as Villa are concerned. We are allowed to raise the bar of expectation based on a better squad than previous years and a finish above Liverpool in the league, aren't we? Good luck to Fulham, but the fact they have done so well in Europe should make MON realise what can be done with that competition next season, and getting to the Group stages of it would be a start.
