'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Carew Pleased To Play His Part

John Carew is happy to be fit and racking up the goals, but he still maintains it's a team effort and he has no problems helping Gabby to finish as the clubs top scorer.

Speaking on the Official Site ahead of our crunch clash with Man City Carew explained he would be more than happy if Gabby took the leading scorer accolade from him for this season, given they are neck and neck in the charts.

'I would be more than happy for Gabby to be the top scorer in the league.'

The Hulk goes on to explain that he'll do his best to help Gabby do that, and should he be able to he'd be 'proud' of his team mates achievement.

'It's been good for all of us,' he added about he season as a whole.

'Not many teams get to Wembley twice in one season aswell as pushing for a 4th place finish in the league.'

Outside of that it seems the only few regrets Carew has about this season was the spell of injury over winter and missing his first penalty in 8 years, when he faced off against David James in the recent Pompey clash.

'I hadn't missed a penalty for eight years, I'm always confident but you have to accept that sometimes the goalkeeper will get lucky and make a save.'

I know there's much talk about Carew and his consistency but considering he was injured for a large chunk of the season and was also not in the starting XI for a while his goals tally is pretty impressive IMO. I for one hope he stays with us.

I remain unmoved! On his day, awesome, the likes of Reading were battered by him, the top teams aren't battered by him though and should be. I don't think at his age with his injury record he'll get the deal he'd want here, I could be wrong. Happy to see him stay on another season and run down his contract but would love to see him replaced with better (and I do mean better, as you say, time out of team etc and still he has scored)

He can play like utter crap... I don't care - he bangs in the goals for fun. If he were fit for the entire season he would be 20 goals a season striker easily... Given his talent he could easily be a torres or a drogba but I will take carew over a cole or doyle or keane any day of the week!
