Tuesday's Villa Transfer Talk - £10m Striker?

Tuesday's Villa Transfer Talk - £10m Striker?

Aston Villa transfer rumours for today.

Well, West Ham's new co-owner David Yukky Man says apart from Scott Parker, they are willing to sell any of their players this summer and that has led to The Daily Mail saying we will test that resolve by bidding £10million for Carlton Cole.

They say the 26-year-old sometime (not often) England international striker, who you'll remember was on loan to us a while back whilst at Chelsea, has been 'a shining light' for the Hammers this season.

Anyone else from West Ham you'd go for?

The Daily Mail repeat the rumour that Villa are tracking Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland.

The Daily Mail also link us to 28-year-old Barcelona`s defender Alexander Hleb (also linked to Manchester City and Sunderland) who was also linked to Villa whilst still an Arsenal player and if memory serves me right, also last summer. Hleb is on loan at Stuttgart at the moment after not settling at Barca following a near £12million move.

The report quotes his agent: Ferber said: 'For now, he is looking forward to going back to Barcelona but he has good memories of England from his time at Arsenal. He likes English football and there has been interest from Premier League clubs.'

There is a link on one of the more gossipy sites with no sources, paper quotes or the like, saying that Sir Alex Chewalot is more interested in bidding £22million for Ashley Young than going for James Milner. Wouldn't want to lose either but if there was a choice, I'd be less gutted if Ash went, still say the stars of our team would be better sold abroad rather than to teams who we want to catch. Or no sales at all obviously!

Robbie Keane strongly linked to Villa, has been linked with a return to former club Wolves again today.

delirium- idk but I think he is injured but if he isn't why bother getting hleb and routledge is actually on form now aswell so routledge resigning might be good as he is young but I still say we should get benzema because he isn't even playing and barely managing to get of the bench

Avfc94 - I completely agree with that, I wish we'd at least look into players of this standard, it'd really show we were serious about 4th place. If Milner or Young leave this summer we will surely have to look into players like this? We'd have plenty of money and would really need to splash out to get a replacement of the same standard or better. Benzema should certainly be looked in to, Real Madrid would seriously consider any serious bids for him in an attempt to cut their losses.

Yes to Ireland, Yes to Hleb, Yes to Bent/Swap+Cash for Heskey, Carlton Cole has his moments, but 10million for him is a HUGE risk. I'm still gonna say Micah Richards would be a nice signing, I reckon it'd be possible to take him away from City, Right-back is still a position we haven't quite got sorted yet. A young, quick, attacking, English lad, perfect. And a brummie, even better. Although I did see somewhere this morning that Tottenham were wanting to make a 23m bid for Bellamy + Richards. Both players i'd welcome in here.

why do we always go for these players not players like benzema or van der vaart who would fit in and both in our price range and I doubt ash or milky would leave if they are still learning

Ireland - Tasty Hleb - Tasty Carlton Cole - Yuk Bent - Proven finisher We have no problems starting something, we just have problems finishing and coming up with that end product that turns that 1-1 draw into a 2-1 Hay-maker to the face.

Ireland is too much of a Kev for MON and not a workhorse either. Hleb is the next level that we need but don't think that MON would agree.....

loads of links today. One says we looking at Falcao again, although now it will 19mill instead of 7 which he was valued at two seasons ago. 5mill for Martin Petrov and also on sky sports link to PSV defender. Plus same links from past week. Interesting

Hleb is a midfielder- still, some good-looking links!

Why would we want Carlton Cole back!!?? Perhaps he could hold Marlons banjo whilst Heskey goes to find a cow with a massive arse.
27/04/2010 14:18:00
Would go all out for Bent before Cole, using Heskey as bait. Bullard and Ireland are good shouts. still think we need 2 strikers
