'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Derby Day Success Verdict

Villa secured both the local bragging rights again and European competition for the 3rd season running with our hard fought 1-0 victory over the Blues today.

O'Neill in his after match verdict Click Here reserved special praise for Brad Friedel, describing his performance today as 'sensational'.

'All his ability and all his experience came to the fore, in the second half particularly.'

O'Neill described the win itself as 'major' and for more than one reason. We all like the bragging rights that come with these games but for Villa the 3 points are far more important, it keeps us in the mix for a shot at Top 4, but it also secured European football for next season again.

'We kept going brilliantly, I am delighted for the team. We have qualified for Europe as a result of winning, we can't finish any worse than seventh.'

So it's all to play for again really, we may not be able to finish any worse than 7th, but with two games to go that 4th place is still possible, even if we need others to do us a favour.

Even if that's not possible if we go out with a bang and on a high I'm pretty sure everyone will be happy.

If we win our next 2 games and if man citeh and spurs dew or citeh win against spurs we could possibly get 4th but we need them to bugger up all 3 games they have left
Avfc94 we do
It is definitely possible. Shame Spurs last game is Burnley at home though.

Spuds have Bolton (h) Man City (a) Burnley (a) not a bad run in to be fair. Much like us though, they often mess up the 'should wins'.

Citeh have us at their gaff, Spurs (h) and West Ham (a)

Obviously we have Citeh and Blackburn

Damm nice work Chapel you got there before me.

blimey ChapelHillVillan, I'll have to read that again tomorrow when I'm more awake...! All looks good though, as you say, key is we just need to concentrate on winning both.

Lots of IFS and BUTS, but its great to be in the mix.

Great win today. In terms of fourth place it will take something massive to win at Man City. Some of their football at the Emirates was very impressive. They look so strong.

I see it like this: We have to win our last 2 matches. If that's the case (having beaten Citeh) they'll be behind us whatever comes. So, Spuds need 2 win minimum to get to 70 on which they'll beat us on GD... I think we can do it! COME ON VILLA!!! BRILLIANT TODAY!!! And what's up with My Sky Grey? That bloke has sold his soul to Murdoch good and proper... ex-Villan my arse!

Six on the bounce ensure that the bragging rights remain the property of Villa Park and its loyal attendees. Whether we achieve fourth or not, and personally I still believe that realistically its a very long shot, we should still celebrate another fine season, a season of further progress and development, and give Martin and the lads a huge ovation after the final home game of the season against Blackburn Rovers.

Not sure we'd really be able to compete in the Champions League to be honest, I'm happy enough we've qualified for Europa and beaten last year's points total with two games to go. That is progress folks ! UTV

My consolation prize for no top 4 would be Portsmouth winning its appeal so no Europe at all for Benitez and the Reds after they finish 7th

No-one has mentioned the timewasting from the very start of the second half. They brought it all on themselves. Pathetic behaviour when Milner was waiting to take his penalty but Jimmy and co. gave them a lesson in timewasting near the corner flags at the end. UTV.
