Welcome to re-hash Saturday!
Yes, the press are at it and again, the only links are outward!
The Daily Mail repeat the claim that John Carew is on his way to Fulham this summer. Likelihood? I reckon, as he has just one year left on his contract, that the big man WILL be off this summer, he is great on his day but the quotes from Martin O'Neill about the player being a 1 in 7 big game player won't have gone down well and the sad thing is, MON is 100% right. I've banged on about JC for a long time, purely because he has everything, absolutely everything, to have got to the very top in the game and he should be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Didier Drogba etc but all to often the big amn doesn't turn up. He also has a relatively poor injury record. At his age I can't see Villa looking to give a player who brings so much frustration (and to be balanced and fair, on his day so much joy - great song as well!) a big contract to run down.
We'll, I have no doubt (cough, ahem) have two new strikers in this summer and perhaps will also see the departure - brace yourselves for the grief to follow - of Emile Heskey.
Ok, the other is Ashley Young to depart. This time to Barcelona. Ok, he's been linked to them before but last time it was for £22million, now the Mirror have added £3million to his tag and say he'll move for £25million in the summer.
Every player has his price, is this his? Depends on who is about to replace him or to fill holes in the team. Maybe two £12.5million players would add more? Maybe not. Would be a shame to see him go but for sure, the only exit I'd allow him would be abroad. No way should any of the top four or any team in and around our second league within a league level.
Another snippet suggests Rafa Benitez will be off this summer if the Anfield club sell Torres and Gerrard. Why does this matter to us? Just brace yourselves for the next 'MON to Liverpool' story!
I'm told, in shock news, that Lionel Messi was seen in and around the curry belt of Pershore Road recently. It is thought the world star is moving to Villa as it is the closest club to this strip of curry houses. Or was it Lionel Blair? I do get confused at times.
