Will John Carew Receive Contract Extension?

Will John Carew Receive Contract Extension?

John Carew to receive contract extension?

It has been well documented that he who is bigger than me and you has just 1 year left on his current contract.

Some people have claimed that John Carew's consistency is not what it should be; I do agree but also at times he is the best striker we have.

Martin O'Neill said back in November after the 5-1 win against Bolton, 'John played very well. You do get performances like that from him when he is absolutely brilliant. But then in other matches he is not as strong. We are looking for that consistency from him. Maybe not topping that performance, but maybe getting close to it. John accepts that himself.'

So a point well made Villa fans, but the facts are there, he is a goal scorer. This year he has scored 16 goals in appearances. For a target man this is a very good return, and having scored 10 goals in his last 13 matches he is very much a man in form! Carew or Gabby look favourites to be our top goalscorer this year, but with Carew in such good form you would think an extension is surely coming soon.

Rumours are circulating of a move to Fulham, but just last June Martin O'Neill underlined the importance of Big John insisting 'We want John to stay at the club, he's signed for a couple of years and we want him to stick around. He's very popular with the crowd and that helps his confidence and his goalscoring ratio is now up to where it should be. We want him to stay here, it's as simple as that. John had a great season considering he missed three months. For him to come back from his bad back the way he did was fantastic. I couldn't be more pleased with him, he's done terrifically well for us.'

Carew's agent Per Flod claimed in December that Carew was happy at Villa and confirmed 'Something will happen during the summer of 2010, either an extension or a transfer.'

I think an extension will happen with Villa wanting to keep hold of the striker and Carew insisting himself 'I would like to finish my career here. I'm not thinking of going anywhere else.'

I hope he stays because on his day (which is usually seen more often in the second half of the season) he is unplayable and one of the best in the league! With Harewood out of contract and Heskey surely on his way, you can all but guarantee an extension will soon be offered to the big man!

put him on a rolling contract MON, what good for the goose is good for JC! Afterall he is scoring goals and Heskey isn't so that has made the decision for you.

When he is in the mood he is awesome. I was at the Bolton game and he was fantastic, a marauding bully of a striker who scores goals at will and makes defenders quake in their boots. Carew will score the winner for us against Small Heath on Sunday, and cement his legend status. Extend his contract now plese MON

Maybe it's just me but i think the holte end have a blind spot with carew. If we keep him we will simply be in the same position next year. The guy is so inconsistent and a luxury as most moves breakdown when he gets it due to his awful touch. Don't get me wrong on his day he's a handful, but how often is his day. We desperately need to freshen the frontline up with someone who is top 4 standard or close to it. I'm hoping MON will get a striker in who actually moves and drop this target man tactic as we're too predictable with it.
