Villa Player Ratings v Everton

My mate meyouldy isn't happy with my ratings so I asked him to submit his!

I would just point out, this is everyone's site, not just mine. I'm actually a bit bored of doing match reports for some reason, mostly time constraints I think. We are very lucky (I think and the feedback from others seems to back it up) to have Glensider's away reports, if anyone wants to submit home match reports, please do feel free. As said, this is everyone's site, have your say !

Right, meyouldy...

OK having seen the front page ratings I have to say I do not agree with these and maybe a poll or something before posting them on the front page as they are the view of one and not the entire site (the fact he owns the site is immaterial lol. )

Star man: James Milner. Didn't stop working, played some lovely through balls and Crosses. Made one or two mistakes but more than made up for it. Certainly showed what it means to want to win.

Player Ratings (JF... putting mine in brackets to see how far out I was according to meyouldy)

Brad Friedel 5 (5)

Looking like a guy at the end of his career, slower and not as agile. Both the body and brain.

Stephen Warnock 8 (6)

Very close second for MotM, Not rock solid which is why he's a Left back and not CB, got forward well despite not being used enough, never has a problem tracking back, never scared to go into a challenge at 100%

Richard Dunne 7 (6)

Solid at the back, got forward when he could, made at least 1 goal saving challenge. Didn't sort his defence out for the set pieces or would have been an 8

James Collins 5 (6)

Not one of his better games. Direction on headers got us into trouble more than once and positioning wasn't brilliant for a CB

Carlos Cuellar 7.5 (none given)

What did he have for dinner? would have never have got anymore than a 4 off me for any other game he has played right-back. Some lovely passes yesterday, overlapped when needed, slight attacking threat and got back well. Very impressed with his work rate and final ball, for a change.

Ashley Young 7 (8)

Never stops running, took some hard challenges again last night but rode some of them allot better and didn't whinge nowhere near as much. Wish he'd have taken the full backs on a little more but he is starting to show some form.

James Milner 8.5 (6)

See star man

Stewart Downing 5 (5)

This guy is playing scared, ball to feet and nobody around him his control and pace are not far off the mark, anybody within five yards of him and he gets rid as quickly as possible. Won't tackle at the moment. Needed a run in the reserves.

Stiliyan Petrov 7 (6)

Looks as though he is enjoying playing with Milner, plenty of passes completed and slowed it down when he needed to. Looking exhausted by the end but kept on going.

John Carew 5 (5)

Looked clumsy and disinterested. Won very little in the air and nowhere near the box to warrant a cross. Very disappointing.

Gabby Agbonlahor 7 (7)

Not sure if working to instruction but first 4 mins he was very static, once he started playing his own game he looked a threat. Some good runs out wide, sadly Carew had followed him which left nothing in the box. Working hard again and covering the pitch well.

Nathan Delfouneso 5 (6)

Sorry Nathan, you were not on there long enough for anymore. First couple of touches were not brilliant but settled down quickly, love to see this guy get more match time.

Martin O'Neill 7 (none given, he is the messiah, hence 11 out of 10 each game...! ;o] )

Started with the same 11 that started Saturday, I'd have done the same. They had something to prove and showed that for the first 20 mins. CB at RB is his style, did the same at Celtic as he likes Big men at the back(oooeeerrrr) and CC did do allot better. Energy and emotion on the sidelines was immense as usual, the right, albeit brave decision, to change the formation and it worked. would have been an 8 if he'd have made the changes sooner and made one or two more. Thought it was a game Delph would have enjoyed more than Downing.

Cheers to meyouldy

four match, most others are only 1 mark one way or t'other, not bad!
The Fear
I dunno. It was Carew's pressure on Jagielka that forced the og. I don't really like MotM polls. It's a team game and the team stands or falls together.

Think these are lot closer to my own ratings that Fear's were. Though I didn't think Milner was an 8.5 I must say, 7 for me. I think Warnock would be my man of the match, well thats who i voted for in the poll.

Player ratings are always interesting - and controversial! The Bham Mail said "Friedel 6; Cuellar 6, Dunne 6, Collins 6, Warnock 6 (Delfouneso 77); A.Young 6, Petrov 7, Milner 7, Downing 7 (MotM); Carew 6, Agbonlahor 7", while VillaTalk gave "Brad Freidel 6; Carlos Cuellar 6; James Collins 6; Richard Dunne 7; Stephen Warnock 6; Stewart Downing 6; James Milner 8 (MotM); Stiliyan Petrov 6; Ashley Young 6; John Carew 5; Gabriel Agbonlahor 6". I'm pretty sure I saw somebody give Carlos the MotM too last night, but I can't find it now. As many opinions as fans?
