In Martin O'Neill's post Bolton verdict he admits he was pleased to see the squad put in a determined performance following our Chelsea disaster.
Speaking on the Official Site O'Neill said the players were determined to put things right and get us back to winning ways after another disasterous month of March in the league (albeit we did finally pick up a single win) and after seeing the match he called it a 'great reaction'.
'I'm delighted with the team, we played very poorly last week and I think the players were determined to put it right here.'
O'Neill did admit a little disappointment that we again failed to put the match beyond the opposition leading to us having a somewhat nervy final 20 minutes but overall it was only a slight disappointment.
He was far more interested in the reaction of the away fans both given the Chelsea drubbing and the rumours of his departure this week.
'I don't want to sound really melodramatic but I was overwhelmed by the reaction. It was nice and I appreciated it greatly.'
Was never really in doubt from the away contingent was it. But I know quite a few will have appreciated Monny picking them out for praise after some 'wayward' fan comments in the past.
Sadly 4th place I think realistically is beyond us now given the points we have dropped and the games in hand we have wasted but the season is far from over and there is still plenty to play for.
A good strong finish to the season now will do us the world of good.![]()
