Martin O'Neill Statement

Statement from Martin O'Neill from the official site:

In light of ongoing and perplexing reports - despite my efforts to bring clarity to the situation earlier today - I would like to reiterate one or two points which, to me, are essential.

Every summer, since taking this job in August 2006, I have sat down and discussed the season in general with my chairman, Randy Lerner, attempting also to formulate plans for how we hope to keep improving the club year on year. This summer will be no different.

I have a yearly rolling contract and I hope to continue to do a job, the challenges of which I enjoy immensely.

Martin O'Neill

nice attempt in the press to de-stablise? Maybe we can all just get back to what we are best at, supporting the team. What happens in the summer is what will happen in the summer, in the meantime, why worry!?
The Fear
Why would the press attempt to de-stabilise? I'm not saying they haven't done so, just wondering what their agenda for doing so is. Not really one for the London based media conspiracy theories myself.

Well said Fear. The season's far from over.....

Hopefully it will kill this topic all together, it's boring, un-called for and frankly a distraction to all, especially the players. Bolton is all we should be talking about and which players are going to be up for, have the legs for a game against a very physical side at a crucial point of the season, after such a bad day at the office. We will see who is who in the squad on Saturday, and should fully expect an edgy start but a power finish, Up the Villa!
magicmerson
yeah yeah....come on all..lets move on...... Bolton is a must win..........let the summer be.......it hasnt arrived yet...so why bother UP THE VILLA

I just hope he goes in the summer,he`s ran his course unfortunately.

If Mon goes, villa goes, he best thing in 20-30 years for vila...., if he goes say bye to villa european challenge....

Tr1dent - it was April fools day yesterday mate

It's nothing to do with the press - it's muppets on internet message boards, of which I've been one myself, so I'm not pointing the finger. This is either the moment when villa bacame a big club again, or the moment when Villa slide back down amongst the also-rans. Let us hope it's the former !

The modern football fan is a tosser and fans definition of success and why they support a team needs to be assesed.I hate the booing at Villa park and I think its totally counter productive but it happens everywhere. We start the week suffering our biggest defeat in over forty years and finish it being threatened that he'll leave if we don't show our gratitude. He wouldn't get away with this at a bigger club.

Not the right time for this kind of theatre, I would expect MON to look to galvanize the club, this to me looks more like self doubt or slef pity! Upset with the fans??? Some strnge decisions have been made and he is accountable, to the fans and club. I admire both Aston Villa (always have regarded them as a good club) and MON but somethings not right here!

What's going on? One terrible defeat and everyone's gone mad. It was traumatic on Saturday but one result does not a season make. We have had the best season we've had for ages and the worst moaning aswell. God I hate some villa fans sometimes. If you drive away o'neill all the good work will be lost as we try to rebuild again.
General Disarray
and who could replace him ? he is obviously one of the best managers around don't let the idiots in the press get to you. oh and good luck on the race to 5th ;-)
keefdayid
I find it funny how must pundits are proclaiming MON the likely candidate for the Liverpool, Man U, etc spots and people here at Villa are trying to oust him! Sounds pretty dumb to me
All Hail MON
