Could Delph Be Our Next Ashley Young?

Could Delph Be Our Next Ashley Young?

Thorypuk:

Thought I'd type this up into an article as I think there's certainly some merit in this question... Could Delph Be Our Next Ashley Young?

Currently, we have Ashley Young and Stuart Downing playing on either flank, with the occasional swap (still prefer Young on the left myself!).

Downing, although having some reasonable games, hasn't quite settled yet in my eyes and I think Wolves was one of his worst to date. (As Fear says, maybe a pre-season to get him settled in?) Also, he's played centre mid before for Middlesbrough... a position he apparently excelled in.... Milner and Downing CM anyone? :o)

So my thought was.... could Fabian Delph play as our next Ashley Young out on the left wing?

Delph

The guy seems to have everything in his arsenal to play the position - he can certainly beat his man given half a chance, has a great shot, a good eye for a pass and can track back and tackle.

The only question remaining.. can he cross a ball?

I'm sure he likely could do... just imagine both Delph and Young bursting down either flank - would certainly put a shiver up the opposition each time!

Thoughts?

mouth watering array of talent, young as well (young in age, not Ashley Young... not that Ashley Young is a talent you understand, oh I give up!) Looking forward to seeing how Delph progresses and where he ends up playing, certainly didn't seem overawed when he faced Man Utd. What a talent!

Delph will be better than Young . Downing delivers the second best crosses at the club behind Albrighton. Fabio will pick Downing before Young for England. There you go

I don't think Delph is a winger personally. Delph would be a winger in the same way that James Milner is a winger...could perform the role but is better in the middle of the park.

Wouldn't it be interesting to get some goals through the central midfield of the pitch instead of relying on crosses only?

My team 4 2 nite, off topic i know Freidal, L. Young Culler, Collins, Warnock, Young, Sidwell, Delph, Downing, Carew, The Fonz. Need to rest Milner, Petrov and Dunne, Gabby injured.

Isn't he a central midfielder? Ah well, he's young. So he'll probably adapt..

Albrighton, Delph, Milner, Young, Fonz and Gabby. What a great young, english and hungry front 6. Skill, pace, goals, great work ethic and hard tackling. What more could you want

I think Ash and Downing belong there before Delph. Delph would be the perfect foil for Milner's creativity in the middle, whilst offering more in his own driving forward than Petrov currently does. He clearly has some refining to do before replacing Petrov permanently. Would def like to see more of albrighton, fonz and delph before end of the season. The lads can't develop if they're not playing, and they clearly ARE good enough.
