Which Central Defensive Partnership Do You Prefer?

OK, our new poll and topic of the day is which central defensive partnership do you prefer?

The options have been kept limited because it seems obvious, for now anyway, that there are only three choices that Martin O'Neill looks to. Whether Curtis Davies will start to push for contention also remains to be seen.

carlos

So which would you go for?

Collins

Collins and Dunne

Carlos and Collins

Dunne

Or you can say none of them and that you'd prefer Davies + one of the others.

I honestly believe this is a 'no-brainer'. Its got to be Dunne and Carlos in the middle, allowing us to play a 'RIGHTBACK' at Rightback.

Doesn't matter who partners Dunne for me, as long as Luke Young gets back in the team.

Dunne and Davies will be an excellent partnership!! I think unfortunatly that he will not wait about!! I honestly think he is an excellent player who will only improve!!

right back at right back is a bit of a radical way out theory there AV-Damo! lol Do agree Luke Young is a top left back and should be in the team.

Maybe we have to add what position each player plays onto the back of each jersey along with their names to help MON work out who should play right back. Like Milner will have midlfield, dunne would have centre back, luke young right back, heskey water boy... Would solve a number of our problems! :P

Dunne and Collins for me, with Cuellar as back up alongside Davies and Clark. Luke Young has to be re-instated at right full back, and then with a back four of Young-Dunne-Collins-Warnock, we'll have arguably one of the best, most well balanced defences in the premiership.

Strange to criticise the best defense in the premiership, of which Carlos has played a major part both at CB and RB.
General Disarray
yes carlos has played a major part but he is no right back and its just stupid to play someone out of position when you dont have to, playing carlos there unbalances the team, if you look over the left you will see that warnock and young have a good understanding and overlap at lot, once the final delivery gets upo to scratch will be come a very deadly threat, if you look down the right carlos never offers that option to downing and this makes it twices as hard for him to play. for me our best team and formation and the 1 i;d like to see us try is 4-5-1 freidal l.young dunne collins/or cuellar warnock downing milner petrov deplh a.young gabby this would give the wingers the support they need, and allow our midfield to start to dominate which we just dont do and is why we have to revert to hoof ball up to the striker

Very sensible and well thought out posting CoE82, I pretty much agree with every word you write. Cuellar is no right back, he's very much the weak link when he's asked to play there. I'm not overkeen on him as a central defender if I'm honest, I much prefer Collins, but that's just a personal view.

Spot on CoE82 .. ever think about applying for the managers job ? How are you with tactical substitutions .

If you also look at us defensively - we were the tightest when cuellar and dunne were at the back while collins was injured. Cuellar is not a right back - he is defensively a rock but he makes NRC's distribution look top class! :P

Thats the point Astriel I remember when we had a run of clean sheets wondering how Collins would get back in the side. I think Warnocks injury brought him back in, they shifted L Young and Cuellar to accommodate one players return!! Thats the problem we have. If our LB or CB gets injured 3 players need to shift around. Look at Man Utd and Chelsea, one player injured, a sub on, Brown injured, Rafael on. No major difficulties. But in response to what other posters have said, defence is a worry in a way, not defensively but I guarantee more goals if L Young is at RB. look at the crossing and assists Warnock is involved in!! Young is as good on the other flank. O'Neill NEEDS to choose his favourites - seemingly Dunne and Collins!!

Surely Cuellar is a favourite? MON will play him virtually anywhere, just to give him a start. The guys a liability. He gets his fellow defenders booked as they attempt to retrieve situations that poor distribution from Cuellar has caused, he mis-kicks more often than not when attempting clearances, and his heading ability is merely so-so. A modern day George Curtis, nothing more.

Well the two lads with the shirts at the moment are Dunne and Collins and have been rock solid why would you change those 2 ?? Carlos should be on the bench and Young in the team at right back if we are trying to improve on what we have now that's a no brainer ! This is really not about the two in the centre is it, it's about MON's crazy idea that Carlos is better than Luke get a grip MON grow some balls and drop him !

Lost 5 all season guess who has played CB in 4 of those defeats Carlos Cuellar!!!!! Dunne and Collins 1 defeat all season and that was in the 90 min at West Ham when we were down to 10 men Beye sent off. 64% of Villa fans know nothing this poll proves !
