Collins and Dunne Absolute Bargains

Martin O'Neill has lauded the capture of Collins and Dunne as being amongst the best pieces of transfer business he's ever been involved in.

The full article is here on the Official Site if you want to read it, and although I know I'm now meant to agree or disagree and ramble for a bit, I think that paragraph sums it up perfectly.

They are amongst the best transfer business O'Neill has ever been involved with, most certainly whilst at B6 at any rate - so that's kind of article over really.

I suppose I better use a few quotes just so you have a taste so to speak.

'Obviously we wanted Richard for some time.'

Again Monny being Monny, denied he was interested in Dunne only a few short weeks (from memory) before the deal went through...wonder how many clubs that tripped up with them thinking they had no competition for him.....snigger!

'You mention Collins as well and the two of them at £5m each have been fantastic value.'

There's only one Joleon Lescott...and we got FOUR times the quality and some change.....snigger!

Enter your own Barry who if you feel so inclined (although some would say we've given Wet Spam enough money it's about time we had a decent player in return).

Yup I think that's about me done here.

great to have options, agree the best back four is as above clarkamus, close one between collins and cuellar for me. Also got Davies to come through which I'm sure he will if he is patient (not sure he'll be patient mind you)

Like to see Cuellar given more match time in his favoured CB role as I actually think he has the edge on Collins, however you can't really argue with the current goals conceded record

I think that James Collins and Richard Dunne have formed quite an impressive central defensive partnership, certainly one of the very best in the premiership. They complement each other perfectly. I was not in favour of the signing of Richard Dunne, while I knew very little about James Collins, so needless to say I am delighted as well as surprised, that they have developed into the formidable pairing that they have. Not a fan of Carlos Cuellar I'm afraid chaps, and certainly believe that Collins is the better all-round central defender. Then of course in the wings we have Curtis Davies and Ciaran Clark, so central defence is certainly a position in which we are well served right now.
