Ashley Plans To Keep Losers Medal

Ashley Young has said he will be saving his Carling Cup runners up medal...I thought that would be obvious myself.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail it does kind of seem a daft question when taken out of context, but Ashley explains that even though we lost against Manchester United, he's extremely proud of the fact the club managed to reach the final and that he got to taste the Wembley experience.

Moreover he adds that there's a nice space next to his losers medal at home, and he thinks an FA Cup Winners medal would look rather good next to it!

'Any domestic final is a fantastic one. Of course I'm keeping my losers medal, it is an achievement to get to the final, although disappointing. You don't work that hard to discard things.'

I can't imagine a single player throwing away a runners up medal to be fair, seems to much like defeating the purpose for me. Ash is right, it's a hard slog to any final and although a winners medal means more, a runners up medal is certainly worth being proud of and for the lads who've never experienced a Wembley Final before, it would always serve as a reminder of 'what could've been' and should be used to drive them forward to greater success.

They certainly have that chance now, although it won't be easy against Chelsea, but hell it'll show how much they want it won't it.

Incidently Ashley, players don't tend to "throw away" medals to the best of my knowledge.

I seem to remember they usually donate them to charity auctions and the like.

I'd keep it for sure. And he should get at least another one, once we've beaten Chelski AGAIN.
