Villa Fans Praised As 12th Man

This is always nice to read.

Martin O'Neill says the fans were 'fantastic' at Reading and the attitude of the Claret and Blue army paid off.

MON explained on the official site:

'At 2-0 down they were still cheering us on. The fans didn't give up - so why should the players? The one thing you didn't want was to go out meekly in front of fans who had turned up and spent a lot of money at Wembley and a lot of money to go to Reading to come and support the team.'

The first goalscorer for Villa Ashley Young also said the fans were 'brilliant' and always are. Adding, 'They were the 12th man against Reading. They have been like that since the start of the season. They have been fantastic.'

Great to read.

I was a lightweight yesterday, stayed at home after the expensive Wembley weekend but as soon as I heard the Villa fans in fine voice, I regretted not going (sorry Sir Jonah, I should have listened! lol)

I'm a funny bugger, I just love to read compliments about the fans, we all spend so much time, energy and obviously cold hard cash and are a great tribe in my ever so humble opinion.

Don't quite agree that the Villa fans were still cheering at 2-0 down - the boos at half time were deafening. Second half though, we were fantastic.

An armchair viewer yesterday but from the armchair I could hear the Villa faithfull in fine voice when the boys came out for the second half.

Agreed IanSymes, anger and frustration was very definitely loudly vented at the break. A repeat of the boo's and jeers that were sounded at half time in the League Cup tie a few seasons back, when we went in 3-1 down to Wycombe. Overall though the traveling support has once again been top drawer this season. You pretty much see the same old faces at the majority of games, and a very good friendship/bonding has been struck up amongst the regulars. Though we all sit in different areas at Villa Park home games, we certainly come together when we hit the road.
