Agbonlahor Nervous Of World Cup Squad Selection

Agbonlahor Nervous Of World Cup Squad Selection

Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has told Sky Sports it will be a nervous wait to see who is selected for England for this summer's World Cup.

If fit (and pray God let him be fit!) Wayne Rooney will go obviously, the other places are up for grabs but it does seem Emile Heskey will also be taken (for some reason I can't figure?) Peter Crouch did a lot to book his place with a brace v Egypt in the England friendly but then who else?

Jermain Defoe, Carlton Cole, Gabby Agbonlahor and probably the biggest long shot, Bobby Zamora have all been used or linked.

What do you think, will he make it or fall just short?

Can't see him going, not been given a chance really but credit where its due to Crouch, keeps taking his chances ~ although always against lesser ability teams, but still have a fantastic record!

sorry i just don't see the advantage of taking Heskey - all this 'hold the ball up well, is a good team player' rubbish irritates me, he's a striker that doesn't score goals and thats poor, end of!

I was trying to second murph, but krisvilla got in there first. I don't see Agbonlahor having a big future at international level. He isn't at that level, and is unlikely to be in the future. He'd be brutally exposed if villa got into the CL. He bleeds claret and blue though. I'm sure most Villans would like to see him stay at the club for the rest of his career (along with Ashley Young and James Milner). Maybe, MON should try him as a winger next season? Or is that wishful thinking?

don't think he'll go. 4th choice striker at the WC will only be used as an 'impact sub', and as much as i like Gabby, i think he's the least likely of those strikers listed to be able to change the course of a game. You'd either want a poacher like Defoe or a tall guy like Cole. Then again, with his pace he'd be handy to bring on if we're winning the game already....
