John Carew Looking To Exit Villa Park?

According to The People, John Carew isn't happy at Villa playing second fiddle to Gabby Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey.

The report was bound to appear at some stage wasn't it? Must admit I'd put money on a JC exit this summer, he does drift from club to club (Valerenga, Rosenborg, Valencia, Roma, Besiktas, Lyon and of course us), always has (not a dig, that is just fact isn't it?) and he has faded for Villa which is a shame as the bloke has so much promise and a real talent when he can be bothered to turn it on.

carew

As Martin O'Neill said recently, he is a Holte End Hero, he just has to become a hero for me now! He also said at the BRMB/Capital Gold event that he believes JC is world class when he turns up and suggested he only turns up in 1 in 7 games.

The 30-year-old Norwegian international has under two years left on his contract taking him up to the summer of 2011. The report suggests he has two years left and would be valued at around 10million. With Villa showing no signs of new contract negotiations at the moment, you would assume they'll want to get something for the player who could leave on a free the season after surely?

No doubt there will be some badge kissing or comments from JC saying he is happy but I can't see him being happy being on the bench and does he really produce enough when he is on? Sometimes he does, that is what makes him so frustrating, I hate wasted talent and think this guy should be up there with the very best strikers in this league, there is no reason with his skill and attributes not to be on 20 goals a season in the league surely?

So, the obvious question, would you sell John Carew in the summer or not? I know for some he is a hero, for others he is just a frustrating enigma with a great song!

Our latest poll, by some amazing coincidence, asks just that!

Favourite versions of JC song:

from the start of the season:

John Carew, Carew
His toe hurts in his shoe
He's now got the f****g flu
John Carew, Carew

folling his curfew break!

John Carew, Carew
He's more tired than me and you
He stays out til one or two
John Carew, Carew

I got frustrated the other week and sang:

John Carew, Carew
Where the hell are you
Try having a shot or two
John Carew, Carew

Ahem... I'll get me coat.

Previous polls:

Would you swap Carew for Keano?

I'd like martin to give the guy 1 last big chance... a start against some decent opposition. Tell him - if you play well, score etc, you keep your place. If not, you're off! Heskey needs offloading to the local farmers market!

Carew's just stopping working hard this season, and it's very annoying. On paper, Carew is a far more talented player than Heskey, but his lack of effort means that we're having to play a less gifted but more committed player in big games. I still think we should try to keep him, at least until we can bring in one or two replacements. With our current roster of Gabby/Heskey/Carew/Fonz we need one more quality player - if we sign two quality players, we can let Carew go.

Villa's front line is a mess. Gabby is a winger masquerading as a striker. Heskey is a cross between Makalele and........er Heskey. JC doesn't seem to be all that bothered anymore. As the man said, wasted talent. Two or three does-what-it-say-on-the-tin strikers in the summer please.

8 goals in all competitions (13 starts/15 subs, by my count) is not that bad. If he played more, he'd probably score more. You may need him if you qualify for CL.

I can't believe he's getting slated on here. Scores and assists more than Heskey and we didn't pay a penny for him (if you remember we swapped for waste of space Baros) and he lifts the team and the fans. In fact its one of the only things the fans sing about isn't it.... Oh no sorry I forgot the Holte sing about the Blues too don't they. Yawn.

" there is no reason with his skill and attributes not to be on 20 goals a season " One very good reason .. he is usually on the bench . I was a big fan of Crouch when he was at Villa his talents were obvious but when he was on the bench all the time he was criticised the same way Carew is now , we just about gave him away after paying 6 million for him and he proved his worth straight away .. still is proving it . If i was Carew I'd psis off and not look back except to take the knives out .

Carew hasn't played well this season. However he is twice the player Heskey is - and its Heskey who's place should be under threat.

Love Crouch. Should NEVER have sold him and that's not hindsight. I was devastated when we sold him. Would like Carew to stay and for him to get more games but I have to admit he is frustrating. Heskey has played really well in recent times but still doesn't score. SSN showed a stat today that showed the average minutes per goal (for England). Crouch is #1 England striker on 109 (I think) mins per goal, Rooney was second where as Heskey was on way down the table on something ridiculous like 500 mins per goal. Heskey is NOT a striker by very definition.

My heart says to keep him, my head says to try for a decent return in the summer. He cost us one Baros and an EasyJet fare, so anything over 5 million would be ok with me. Bloody shame though, I really wanted him to do well here.

I fail to see the fascination with Carew, his touch is awful and most moves break down as soon as he gets the ball and when does he give 100% these days. Heskey links the play far better and is the reason why he's 1st choice. I feel Martin has given JC too many chances already and if he'd shown less faith ages ago and signed some class up front. Well we all know where we'd be!

Its pretty simple - give JC a run of 5-7 matches where he starts. Give him a bit of a run in the team so he can get some game time under him (instead of the 20-25 minute cameos). Without giving him the game time to prove himself its unfair to judge him. If after an extended run in the team he hasn't performed than maybe he isn't good enough. But if we don't give him a run, its unfair to bring down the axe on him when he hasn't been given an opportunity to prove himself. Additionally he needs to be given time in the position - having not started consistently in months it will take some time to build up form. If we started him now till the end of the season and he is a major flop then unload heskey and JC. Heskey has started the majority of games this season and he has been awful - give JC the same opportunity. What's the worst that could happen? Heskey scores 1 in 6 games at best - if carew comes in and scores 8 from the last 12 matches then we have a good chance of making the champs league spot. If carew only scores 2 in 12 or we really that worse off?

Heskey should be benchwarming, Carew needs a run in the team, if after 20 or so games he hasnt proved himself again, then offload him. As far as im concerned though he does everything heskey does plus puts the ball in the net. Simple maths Mr o'neill.

He's not good enough sadly, purely based on effort not skill which is sad. He said on Norwegian TV recently: 'if I trained like other pros do I'd be the best in the world.' Says it all really.
