England Never Took Me Seriously - Young

England Never Took Me Seriously - Young

Luke Young has revealed that he didn't feel like England ever took him seriously as a right back, and that's why he quit England.

Speaking to the Express and Star today Luke said he was fed up of being picked for one game in ten but only when somebody else was injured, and at his age now, he feels it's probably right for a younger player who can turn out for the next 4-5 years to stake a claim instead.

'I pretty much got picked for one squad in every 10 when someone was injured. When I turned up I used to sit in the stands, I didn't really get taken too seriously.'

Young however harbours no ill will against England or Capello and is confident we are going to do well in South Africa with the players we have, it's just a case of whether we can perform when the time comes.

Of more interest to me is the timing of the article. But on that score I'll let others make their own minds up, I just can't help see parallels to his Villa career so far.
