England Never Took Me Seriously - Young

Luke Young has revealed that he didn't feel like England ever took him seriously as a right back, and that's why he quit England.

Speaking to the Express and Star today Luke said he was fed up of being picked for one game in ten but only when somebody else was injured, and at his age now, he feels it's probably right for a younger player who can turn out for the next 4-5 years to stake a claim instead.

'I pretty much got picked for one squad in every 10 when someone was injured. When I turned up I used to sit in the stands, I didn't really get taken too seriously.'

Young however harbours no ill will against England or Capello and is confident we are going to do well in South Africa with the players we have, it's just a case of whether we can perform when the time comes.

Of more interest to me is the timing of the article. But on that score I'll let others make their own minds up, I just can't help see parallels to his Villa career so far.

Nothing at all, unless they had a bust up. Cant see that happening though.

Luke has come in from some criticism from England fans on other forums for this comment. I think he's right, time to step aside for someone else, someone younger and hungrier. Now it's up to MoN to give him the stage to show the rest of the country what they're missing.

Sorry, can't agree with anyone not wanting to pull on the 3 lions for any reason, maybe an insight into why MON doesn't rate him all that highly, I think he is a good full back, but every chance to play for your country should be an honour, and not turned down as it isn't on his terms

Fair play to him, being dicked about by his country. One of the best right backs in the league and neither England or Villa take him seriously, he needs to leave Villa in the summer and go somewhere where he can be appreciated.

I disagree - i think the only reason he's not in the side is that cuellar is playing out of his skin. I would play cuellar for the tougher games, and young for the weaker opposition that we need to break down
